UPDATE 21/NOV/2020 Ok I went to the place again and things seems to have improved. They replaced the younger lady that worked there, a more confident lady was there, also a young guy assisted when there was queue building up.

Still no sign saying Cash Only. I ordered for ayamase big size. While I thought the size was small, when I compared the size to big ayamase sold at Tasty; the Tasty's ayamase was 500grams less! Yet both were sold for £6.

So far I would recommend this place.

Covid-19 Pandemic Second Wave (review)

Nice decor, everything is clean, and some chairs for dining in. At the moment is 2nd Lock down, so the chairs were stacked up.

SERVICE Service was very poor! The girl working behind the til was unhelpful and kinda rude it felt like she didn't want to be there. (the manager needs to teach her customer service or get rid of her. Ungrateful people like her should learn there are thousands of people losing jobs left and right because of virus, but she is so lucky to be working here!) My wife asked about the ayamse, she couldn't even explain in detail, it was like she doesn't even know what she was serving.

When I was about to pay, she said £21, cash only. This is ridiculous, they should have put a Sign post letting customers know it is CASH ONLY. I had to take cash out which cost me extra!

And the way she dropped the money in my hand was rude. Either she does not know customer service, or it is just another typical Nigerian with no manners.

No napkins was provided, no fork or spoon given as a take away (even though we didn't ask for fork/spoon, napkins should have been provided). No receipt was given for our order.

Also no one was wearing a mask, in the midst of this Pandemic!

FOOD I was happy with the selection of food, they do snail (igebin), and pepper soup. Whereas Tasty does not serve them, Tasty restaurant do pepper soup but were not serving in season.

They do usual jollof, fried rice, plantain, yam etc. They do large variety of dishes.

But they don't do suya at the moment but the snail compensates for this.

TASTE Very very tasty! The gizzard was nice and tasty with the sauce it was covered with. Pepper soup was delicious though kinda salty, we had to add a little bit of water to reduce the salty taste. I guess the essence ingredients is located at the bottom of the soup. Ayamase was nice and tasty, snail was good too.

VALUE poor portion! Plain rice portion was VERY poor, I can understand it is a small portion with ayamse. But it is plain rice, plain rice is so EASY to make. They could have given more portion. It is not jollof or fried rice we ordered.

Snail cost £6 just for ONE quantity! Gizzard cost £1.50 and you get more portion than snail. Ayamse with small rice cost £6 which is not bad, but big size ayamse is also £6.

Size of pepper soup I cannot judge, but I am happy with the assortment of meats.

I am not happy with the extra £1 charge for each dishes, though I would say the taste were very good.

Also the hot quality for the food were poor. When I got the food, and by the time I walked to my car which took 3 minutes. The gizzard temperature was mild. When I got him after 15mins, all food went cold, except for the white rice which was warm.

This is unacceptable because if someone ordered for takeaway, sure they can microwave it. But that is NOT the reason why they ordered takeaway, they ordered takeaway to be eaten straight away in hot condition. It is like ordering kfc/burger King as take away, and your food was delivered cold. You wouldn't be happy would you?

CONCLUSION If you had enough of Tasty restaurants or other African restaurants but you want to try a different restaurant, you can come here.

Price for the dishes are quite unfair but taste is very delicious. Customer service is poor, that girl needs to be taught customer service!

I would give this easy 4 stars, but manager needs to see why I gave 3 stars so the issues can be addressed.

Should I recommend it? I don't know. I will try them again and see if they address any...

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I honestly would.

It appears that mimi's kitchen is ran by people who are suffering from mental health issues. I and friends have ordered from them a few times on uber eats and honestly you are lucky if they actually send you what you ordered. They have a tendency to not cancel your order if they cannot accommodate it but instead just send you out an alternative. If I wanted the alternative I would have ordered it. If I am to speak on the customer service then I will honestly be here all day. The man who manages the phone line is honestly one of the rudest and most dismissive people I have ever had the displeasure of speaking to.

My most recent order with them will most definitely be my last. They sent me eba that was not only mushy but also had koko in it. Anyone who is familiar with eba will understand that the only way to have koko in it is to go out of your way to do so. Their food is honestly mediocre at best and there are far better alternatives in woolwich who actually value your custom and respect you as a human.

If people were bothered to leave reviews then I truly believe that Mimi's Kitchen would have a 1 star rating.

If you value your peace of mind and money I would strongly suggest you avoid ordering from this sorry excuse for a business. They are honestly the embodiment of the word...

Disgusting and appalling customer service. I live 1 minute away but I don’t go to the store due to the distasteful customer service. I’ve learnt my lesson and now know never to order from the store again even if not in person. This lack of respect for customers SHOULD NOT be promoted. I never write reviews but this store and their costumer service is honestly disgusting and distasteful.

I ordered via Uber eats and got the order mixed up. I went physically to the store and politely asked if it would be possible to rectify the mistake. The man who claims he is store manger barely gave me the chance to finish the sentence before stating that “Uber eats has nothing to do with mimi” and that they just take away order from them. Nothing he said made sense and it felt he was just palming me off.

I will never be returning again and I’m sure it won’t be long before others do the same too. Good luck because it won’t last long. Good riddance and sort out your disgusting customer service. Your staff are not kind and have no ounce of compassion especially the repeat offender who calls himself store manager. Absolutely shocking and I’m fuming. Thank you once again for invoking these unpleasant feelings simply for trying to promote...

If i could give a 0 i would!!!! I ordered from Mimi’s Kitchen yesterday. I’ve been going there for a while.. sometimes the food is nice, but a lot of the time the meat is really tough and far too oily. This time I ordered efo riro and was shocked to find glass in my food. Thank God I spotted it before eating because it could have ended very badly. I’ve also once seen in the kitchen meat fall on the ground and someone pick it up and put it straight back into the lunchbox. I called them several times about the glass. Every time I was told management would call me back, but nobody ever did. Not even an apology until I asked why no one was saying sorry, and even then it didn’t feel like they cared. This whole experience showed me they don’t care about customers’ well-being or taking responsibility. Really disappointing and honestly unsafe. It’s safe to say I will never be going to Mimi’s Kitchen again.

I’m not Nigerian, so I can’t really speak on the authenticity. However, I can speak as someone who enjoys good food. I have tried a couple of Nigerian places before, and none of them had the same quality or taste. Cons: the staff can be a bit inattentive (for example, when ordering takeaway in the restaurant, they can give the wrong order, like ordering assorted fish efo riro but receiving assorted meat instead and discovering it only when get home). Again, I wouldn’t mind, as I love their food regardless. However, their service could be much improved, along with their delivery times—it takes forever to order from Deliveroo sometimes! Other than that, I’ve been their regular customer for the past few years and love the food which I most certainly recommend. Just double check your food order is correct when getting a takeaway :)
