Vibe is great and it has a lot of potential but the cooking needs to improve quite a bit to make this somewhere I’d go regularly.
I live up the road, so really do hope it works because Gracelands which was there a few years ago was excellent and I went there for breakfast every weekend. Would love it if Morty & Bob’s could be somewhere I could go every week - and I would too because I live 100 yards away.
Staff were very friendly, but our mains were set down at our table while we were still finishing our starters - and there was a lot of very oily food.
I had the chicken schnitzel which was OK, but I wouldn’t choose it again. As schnitzel goes it was a bit bland and arrived in quite a bit of residual cooking oil, and the pickled gherkins and capers on top didn’t really compliment it / add much. Not a particularly tough thing to get right so not sure what’s going on with that one. Reading the online menu now it says there is mash and a fried egg with that dish, but that was definitely absent - though I think maybe that was consistent with the menu on the day.
We also had some mushroom croquettes to start - and they were a bit heavier than you’d think - and some soup, which was good. Would love to see some lighter & interesting salads on the menu and a fish dish that isn’t salmon - I can make that at home.
There were 3 of us and the total was ~£90 with each of us drinking still / sparkling water. Not horrendous, but for half of that we could have gone to the vegan place next to Kensal rise overground, which is excellent and I guess in terms of local restaurants - Morty & Bob’s competes with.
Rooting for Morty & Bobs and I’m sure the team will iron out the wrinkles on the service (I know they’ve not been open long).
Keeping my fingers crossed that the kitchen &...
Read moreVisiting Morty & Bob Kensal Rise was an overall disappointing and unpleasant experience, largely due to the consistently rude and off-putting behaviour of one of their main staff members. It's a shame that her negative attitude permeates the entire atmosphere, as it greatly detracts from what could otherwise be a delightful dining spot.
From the moment I walked in, she greeted me with an icy stare and curt response. Her demeanour was unwelcoming and made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.
It's truly unfortunate that she appears to be a constant presence at Morty & Bob Kensal Rise, as it significantly impacted the overall ambiance of the establishment. The sour mood she emanated overshadowed the otherwise inviting atmosphere, and it became evident that she might benefit from some customer service training.
However, I must admit that my visits on days when this employee was not working were far more enjoyable. The other staff members are friendly, making the dining experience considerably better. The food itself is also reasonably good, with a diverse menu offering various options to suit different tastes.
Despite the occasional moments of respite when the unpleasant staff member was absent, I cannot overlook the consistent negative encounters that dominate most of the time. I will definitely be telling other families and friends that live in the area to avoid...
Read moreCame here for brunch, the service was satisfactory and the food was tasty but a bit overpriced - £4 for 1 additional sausage. Reason for 3 stars is that there is an option to pay using the QR code on the table, which guides you to a portal which applies a discretionary service charge, which you can only opt out of by talking to a member of staff. Not ideal, but not the end of the world. The real problem comes, when having accepted the enforced discretionary service charge, you are then asked if you would like to leave a tip. Can someone explain to me the difference between the cost of the food, the service charge and the tip? Finally, emotionally drained from the experience, the online platform then charges you £1 for the pleasure of not paying the bill in person. This cost should absolutely be absorbed by the restaurant and not the customer. An overall pleasant experience, tainted by poor business...
