I’m absolutely disgusted by the customer service I received from both the Ilford/Canning Town branches of Mr P Taste of Africa.
I had originally placed an order as part of a TikTok food review, with the genuine intention of showcasing and supporting a Black-owned business in a positive light despite already hearing several negative reviews about this place as well as word of mouth negative reviews. Sadly, those reviews were spot on.
After waiting over two hours for my food, I was informed the delay may be due to distance but isn't it the restaurant that accepts to provide a service outside their radius? Fair enough things happen. At first, I spoke to a lovely, polite woman at the Ilford branch who seemed helpful and understanding. But moments later, the phone was abruptly turned off and I could no longer reach anyone.
When I called the landline back, I was met with a completely different woman.. rude, dismissive, and full of attitude. She claimed to be from the Canning Town branch, but it was clear she had taken over the situation. The way she spoke to me was vile, aggressive, and completely unprofessional, no empathy, no resolution, just arrogance and disrespect. It was almost like she enjoyed being unhelpful.
The customer service I experienced was rude, unprofessional, and completely dismissive. There was zero accountability or care for the customer experience.
A message to the owner: if you want this business to fail, continue to let your staff, especially those at the Ilford branch represent your brand. Their behaviour is a reflection of poor service and lack of training and just pure ignorance.
I won’t say who I am for certain reasons, but it’s a real shame. This could have been a positive and supportive review. Instead, it became a...
Read moreThe food is 10/10! My go to when I want a taste of a “home-cooked meal” with convenience and on a budget.
However, I can’t say the same for the customer service. I hate to be the one to say it but, customer service in some ethnic establishments (specifically Mr P Canning Town) is like oil and water. I’ve never walked in and had a good customer service experience. Staff - all but ONE, always seem to have an attitude, be irritated, impatient and very snappy. Only time they’re somewhat nice is when it’s a male customer. I’ve been to one other Mr P branch in Hackney, and the staff are a lot nicer and friendlier. If you don’t have the patience and enthusiasm, don’t work in customer service, period. Not sure what their customer service training is, but it definitely needs reviewing. At first I thought maybe a certain member of staff (with the locs) was having a bad day, but one can’t be having a bad day every single day.
If the food wasn’t so good, I’d simply stop going. Mr P himself should have a word with members of staff at this branch. For the sake of his...
Read moreI ordered from here last Saturday, as we had a hankering for egusi. We ordered pounded yam & assorted meat. I live 3-4 miles from the premises. The food arrived ahead of the delivery time. The food was fresh, plentiful & tasty. And everyday I've been wanting more of it, since eating it. A full range of assorted meats, not just shaki & some beef My only critique is that the takeaway menu is not clearly laid out. I thought I ordered the pounded yam meal, but I got a call from Mr P setting there was no amala, just pounded yam. It could be made clearer that there is a set swallow meal, & individual components sold separately. Other than that, all was good. I'm pleased I don't live near there, or I'd never be out...
