I went to a Indian/Nepalese spot called Namaste Gurkha for my parents' 40th anniversary. Let me tell you about the whole experience.
First off, the restaurant itself is pretty cool. They've got this nice, cultural vibe going on with the décor—lots of traditional artwork and pieces that really set the mood. It's cozy and gives off a warm feeling, which is great for family occasions.
Now, the staff there are top-notch. Super friendly and attentive—they kept checking in to make sure everything was okay without being overbearing. It's always nice to feel taken care of, especially on a special night like this. Plus, it's worth noting that the place is halal, which is great if you're looking for that.
On to the food. For starters, I went with the Gurkhail kebab, chicken tikka, and tandoori roti. The Gurkhail kebab was a standout—really tasty with a perfect load of spice. Just the right amount of kick without being overpowering. The chicken tikka was also a hit, especially when dunked in the mint sauce. That combo was just delicious. The tandoori roti, though, was a bit of a letdown. It was hard and got stale pretty quickly, which was disappointing.
For drinks, I ordered a mango lassi. It was really nice and sweet, exactly what you want from a mango lassi—super refreshing and a great way to cool down after the spicy kebab.
When it came to the mains, I chose the lamb bhuna, pilau rice, and keema naan. The lamb bhuna was pretty bland, to be honest. It felt like they forgot to add the spices and herbs, which is a real shame because a good bhuna should be bursting with flavor. The pilau rice, on the other hand, was delicious—fluffy and flavorful, just how it should be. Unfortunately, the keema naan was another letdown. It was hard and stale, much like the tandoori roti. Seems like there's an issue with their bread timing or storage.
Overall, I'd say my experience at Namaste Gurkha was mixed. The staff were great, and the restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance. Some of the food was really good, but there were definitely some misses, especially with the naan and the lamb bhuna. The prices are reasonable, so it’s not a bad place to go, but I think they need to work on adding more flavor to some of their dishes and make sure their bread is fresh. With a bit of tweaking in the kitchen, this place could be fantastic.
Would I go back? Maybe, especially for those kebabs and the friendly service. But I'd probably stick to different mains and hope they sort out their...
Read moreWe ordered a takeaway from Namaste Gurkha a few weeks ago, having read really good reviews. With a high rating in the area and a five star hygiene rating, we thought it was well worth a try and were really looking forward to our meal.
I was a little disappointed when I was trying to place my order, as they couldn’t understand a lot of what I was saying. We’re totally fine with that of course, but it doesn’t make it very easy to place an order, especially when it’s quite a big order. The most disappointing thing was that they wouldn’t make any of the vegetarian options we were asking for. We felt that the vegetarian options were pretty limited, so all we asked was for some fairly standard dishes but with vegetables instead of meat (for example, a vegetable bhuna). They also didn’t have several other go to dishes that we were looking for, and we’ve never had this problem with any other Indian restaurants before.
The delivery was fine and the food was all good, with decent portions and pretty tasty. Some of the dishes (in particular the vegetarian options) were a little bland or just had the same flavour despite being different dishes, but we were somewhat expecting that by this point.
All in all it was fine, but I don’t think we’d go back or order from them again. This is purely on the basis that they weren’t very creative in making some fairly standard dishes that we were asking for, or in having much diversity in the flavours. Fine, but nothing to...
Read moreVery Friendly & efficient service with just scrumptious meals! Customer service from the start to the end was very good. Very welcoming staff. Staff was knowledgeable about the menu (which I personally thought was a lot to look at) plus chef listened to our request and did a fantastic job on amending a dish for our kid. Drinks were delicious though one of us thought the mango lassi wasn’t sweet enough but for the other, it was “just perfect”. The kid liked the design of the menu, “attractive” is what she said. The food was awesome, it came hot, even though steamed momo order was wrong (had jhol momo instead), staff had informed us before serving that they did a mistake with our order and we quite liked they OWNED up and ADMITTED they did the wrong order so we didn’t mind. BRAVO to the chef and staff for that. Besides, the jhol momo was so delicious! And glad we weren’t charged for it and was charged the normal price of our original order. Brilliant service. Our server often came to check on us to make sure we were happy with our food and drinks. They were quick to clear our tables when we cleaned out the dishes and quick to aid us when our drinks were running low. Couldn’t have asked for more! All round a lovely service. Thank you to the chefs for the delicious food and thank you the rest of the staff for an amazing service. 🙏🏼 We’ll definitely visit again and recommend...
