New Hing Loong Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in London

Made a res for 5 people for mothers day, arrived waited to be seated but no one came to greet us. After a couple of minutes waiting by the entrance like lemons, I went to the bar to ask and was told that my table was given to another party and that we would have to wait to be seated. We were left waiting in the doorway like idiots and ordinarily, I would have left to find another place but given given the day, everything else was booked solid. When we were eventually seated half an hour later, the service was decently quick and the food came out promptly however wasn't great. Ordered a couple of ' big plates' which gave a choice of 2 types of noodle plus a entree dish from a set list however, was told 'no' when we asked to sub black bean chicken for Szechuan chicken instead. Ordered the Szechuan separately as it is a fav of my mums. Very disappointed with what was brought out which was boiled chicken and a few chunky veggies in a very sweet ketchup based sauce! When bill came, I asked to remove the 10% automatic gratuity that was added as I wanted to add a smaller tip because the service and food had been passable at best. Was told that the service charge coud not be removed and that all London restaurants had this practice. When I pressed, knowing full well that I was well within my rights to ask for its removal, the hostess stormed off shouting across the restaurant in Mandarin/Cantonese, in full view of all the other patrons who were still dining. When she came back with the amended bill , my Dad proceeded to try to explain my decision and was greeted with a very nonchalant response of 'well, it is very busy, I couldn't do anything'. After using them and always having top class food. I have a had two really disappointing experiences. First one was multiple missing items. Not a massive problem as such but annoying when you’ve paid for it. This time the food was 2 hours late being sent, only sent after the 3rd phone call ... 40 minutes after the first phone call saying it was 5 minutes away. At 10pm I wasn’t really feeling eating a big meal and said I’d return the food only to be offered a £5 discount if I took the food. I sent the food back as I had been informed that it was ready 45 minutes prior to the driver arriving at mine. Atrocious. As I'd never tried this place before I decided to be unadventurous and order sweet and sour king prawns with special rice. I also ordered some salt and pepper prawns as a starter. As soon as I bit into the salt and pepper prawns, I knew I had made a mistake ordering from this place. They were so bland. The sweet and sour was even worse! The special rice had no seasoning whatsoever and was just regular rice with a few tiny pieces of chicken and sweetcorn thrown in. I came across this place on Deliveroo and it had over 500 reviews with a rating of 4.5. I can only assume these are paid for/fake as nobody in their right mind would rate this place above 1.
