(Edited after the owner response) One of my visits to Norbiton Kitchen left me with mixed feelings, overshadowing what could have been a simple sandwich experience. The menu offered classic sandwiches, albeit at a price point that felt a bit too steep for what was served. The saving grace, however, was a decent variety of drinks to choose from.
What truly tarnished the visit was the concerning behavior of the owner. It became apparent that he had anger issues, as witnessed by his regrettable treatment of the staff. The lack of empathy towards employees and evident self-esteem issues were uncomfortably palpable. Witnessing such behavior not only left a sour taste in my mouth but also raised questions about the workplace culture.
After a particularly unpleasant encounter, the owner faced the public with a forced smile, reeking of bad coffee breath. It was a stark contrast to the welcoming atmosphere one expects from a local sandwich bar. The facade of friendliness was shattered, revealing an owner seemingly ill-suited for the service industry.
Adding insult to injury, the food itself did little to redeem the experience. The salad options that you can see displayed next to the cash register, there is a sign (top left) that mentions salads (please see pictures). and bottle juices, though acceptable, were nothing extraordinaryâchoices that one could easily find at a nearby supermarket like Asda, minus the inflated price tag.
In conclusion, Norbiton Kitchen falls short of being a go-to sandwich destination. While the menu offers the basics, the overpriced sandwiches, coupled with the uncomfortable encounter with the owner, make it hard to justify a return visit. For a satisfying and pleasant dining experience, one might want to explore other local options that prioritize not just the food but also a positive and respectful atmosphere.
I would like to point out that there is no mistake in this review or fake information. Even though it is a family business, there have been a few people working there and also customers who have shared similar situations regarding only the owner. Hopefully, this serves as motivation to encourage improvement in the treatment of employees who have been there before and the...
Read moreAs a local Iâve always used this coffee shop (even before the current owner). The old owner was a lovely relaxed guy, service not profit driven. This owner is tight (uptight) and rude. Although the young female staff are friendly, diligent and generous. Please donât fall for this disguise. His sandwiches are extremely overpriced and the quality is varied. I have had sour chicken on more than one occasion which is never a good sign. He sets his panini grills too high for speed of service, meaning the centres are not melted- not welcome when you are wanting a warm snack on a cold day! He is too tight to serve prawn -replaced instead with crab-sticks. He wonât put sultanas in the coronation chicken because âheâ doesnât like them. He was angry when I asked if was included in the âEat out, help outâ scheme stating Iâm a take away- when he has eat in customers. There was an elderly man ahead of me getting eat in who I thought may not have been aware of the scheme and may have benefitted- it was a selfless, reasonable and perfectly innocent question. The next time I visited I ordered a salmon bagel (for just under five quid) and asked the girl if it could be included in the lunch deal, she said no, I said fine and then he came running over, took my bagel out the toaster, threw it in the bin and threw me out the shop- much to the shock of myself and the poor staff member. This owner is so greedy, ruthless and profit driven. He didnât throw just me out that day. My dad will no longer stop by for a coffee. My partner and his sub- contractors will no longer buy their lunch there. His mum will go elsewhere. I look forward to the ultimate failing of his business so we can get a new owner who cares about loyal customers. If you are looking for a good lunch in the area there is a Sainsburyâs Local at Norbiton Station, plus another sandwich shop there. The other way is Asda. If youâve got time, the local âNorbitonâ pub does fabulous pizza, and finally, just immediately next door is an award winning, superior sushi shop- try their sushi for a healthy and satisfying alternative to a sour...
Read moreThe day we got more than just a wrapâŚâŚ. Food - delicious, tea & coffee - lovely StaffâŚâŚ. WellâŚâŚ. After spending ÂŁ25 and eating in, just as we were leaving; the owner decided to âtellâ me not ask me if he could, but decided to âtellâ me how I should parent and what I did wrong.
I have a just 2yr old - who was absolutely fine in there (no damages and anything she dropped on the floor I picked up and cleaned the chair too). And a 4 month old.
I was meeting my dad who I donât see very often as we live far apart and wanted to have a nice catch up over a bite to eat with his granddaughters.
The owner told me how I should parent, what I should say, what I shouldnât say or do etc etc etc
What I would like this person to know is that you never know whatâs going on in someoneâs life. And unless you do and youâre very close to them DONT tell them what they should and shouldnât be doing with their children.
You have no idea whatâs going on in my life and why I was so close to Kingston hospital and why I was only meeting my dad for a very quick bite to eat.
To say mentally Iâm struggling with stress and health scares etc etc is an understatement. So your âadviceâ was very much unwanted/unneeded/uninvitedâŚ..!
The shop says Sandwich Shop - stick to what youâre good at. And unless someone opens up to you, keep your opinions...
