Family of four ate lunch here today. We arrived at opening time. The service was mildly friendly, efficient and professional.
The food however was a mixed bag. We ate grilled and fried fish. My wife's haddock portion was really small but tasty. My cod was a good thick portion but undercooked and needed to be sent back to be cooked more. The waitress handled it well even though the chef thought it was fine, but it wasn't as the texture was slimy and the flesh was pink on the middle on one side. My son's breaded cod was good, not great but a decent size. My daughter's fish fingers were okay. The chips were very good and I thought the salad we got with our grilled fish was fantastic.
The decor inside was very dark but the chairs were comfortable. The inside was cold (outside was about 13) and some of us near the folding doors sat with our jackets on. Also from the moment we walked in it smelled strongly of fish but not in a good way.
The place seems popular with locals especially considering it was a Tuesday lunch time. Unfortunately even though I live locally, I won't be going back again as there are better options for this...
Read moreI have been a patron of fish! kitchen for well over a decade. Today I asked my wife to pick up some cod for futoor (breaking fast for Ramadan) and she came back with what I can only describe as a child portion. My wife even complained at the size and the server claimed “…they are all the same size and this is chunky…”For the money, the fish is without exaggeration half of what I would expect from premium establishments in Central London. For this reason, with regret, I will never be buying from here again. I would urge the manager/owner to visit their competitors to see why. You are screwing your local patrons because you can. Cutting fillets into thirds is ridiculous. I will be sure to buy from others...
Read moreWe have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years. We are loyal fans and can tolerate a one-off issue, but last night was too much. We were served boiled new potatoes that couldn’t be cut with a knife – they were hard and gummy at the same time. We thought they were rotten and sent them back. We waited for another round (by which time our fish got cold), and they were the same. The chips were also dry and unappealing. What really took the biscuit was the ketchup on the table, which fizzed up like Coca-Cola when we opened it. We narrowly avoided food poisoning, and we won’t be back for a long while, mainly because the way this was handled was not as classy as the prices...
