I recently visited Nora Restaurant in Kingston. Our bill for two of us came to £78, which I found quite expensive given that the food was very average and overpriced . When the bill arrived, a 12.5% service charge had been added. I asked the waiter if it was mandatory, but instead of answering directly, he argued with me and kept saying, “Didn’t you like the service?” I simply wanted clarification, but he avoided the question. He also mentioned that the bread served with hummus and the sauces (garlic and chilli) were usually chargeable but had been given free of charge. In the end, although the service charge was not mandatory, we still left a £3 tip. Unfortunately, I did not appreciate the waiter’s attitude during this exchange. Overall, the restaurant felt average—the food was nothing special, and the service did not justify the added service charge. Hopefully, they will update their menu to clearly state whether the service charge is compulsory which the waiter mentioned he will get it added in the menu as service charge to be paid mandatory . The waiter was of Egyptian decent and I guess he is not aware of the UK laws that the service charge in not mandatory to be paid by the Consumer and it can be removed from the final bill . My only reason not to visit this restaurant in future is due to the service staff...
Read moreAn unsure start as to ordering as I was with a teetotal vegetarian/ almost vegan friend who has a couple of severe food allergies and me being a rather greedy carnivore who can drink for England, so it sort of ruined the option of set menus for us. First off came olives and pickled vegetables with the best flatbreads I've yet tasted- and I've tried them in Tangier to Casablanca, Cairo, Tel Aviv Ankara and many places in between - who the hell raves about flatbreads ?- but these really were noteworthy being so light and fluffy but with a great flavour. We ordered way too much food- I came out feeling as stuffed as a Christmas turkey, but our sizeable leftovers were packed for takeaway without even being asked for. Dare I say this is an eleven out of ten place - first time I've ever been so complimentary.
Time for an update as just made my 5th visit, and each one has been as enjoyable as the first. I've tried to try and vary my selections to taste new dishes each visit, although I am particularly fond of the Beiruty chicken wings and also chicken livers. Service by Joseph and his team even when busy is always attentive without being intrusive. I still order too much food each time but know that it will make an excellent...
