Ossie's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in London

I visited this place and was sold old reheated chips, they were disgusting and made me feel sick..

Upon realising this when I got home, I called them to tell them that the chips they sold me was reheated old chips.

The guy on the phone was rude and shouty and was basically telling me that I was lying, no apology no offer of a refund. I then told him I coming back to the shop, I live 5 minutes away..

Back at the shop, I placed the chips on the counter and showed him the old disgusting chips and asked him “do these look fresh to you?” He then insinuated that I bought them an hour ago!! When I bought them 10 minutes ago.. I asked why would I go to the trouble of coming out of my house to return the chips if they were fresh?? He offered a partial refund for the chips..

After a shouty exchange the other guy who works there walked in and wanted to argue telling me I bought them TWO HOURS ago! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.. I said just give me back ALL of my money..

He gave me back a full refund and told me not to come back lol Like I’d come back to be sold old chips..

They knowingly sold me those old chips and instead of putting things right.. They wanted to argue, safe to say I will NEVER come back here.. They’re not to be trusted with the FRESHNESS...

Update - Adding back previously docked stars for improved recent customer service. One staff member so no phone ordering possible. Prices through the roof.

Certainly the best fish and chips in Croydon, probably, the world. Consistently excellent. Busy on a Friday. Recent change of those running the shop has, regrettably, allowed the service to deteriorate; phone often left off the hook precluding orders in advance, and the face-to-face experience could certainly be improved. Food still good.

In the last 6-12 months; Phone unanswered and left off the hook so cannot order ahead; if ordering ahead it is still necessary to wait up to 30 minutes in the shop for no reason when the food is cooked, ready and unallocated but they just are not managing customer orders properly, no matter how simple.

In the last 3 months orders on the phone taken, fufilled and met expectations, so restoring...

A rare treat - lovely fish and tasty chips and always very friendly service. Even when busy the place is kept clean and pretty reasonable prices too - Sadly has gone downhill since lockdown. Has some clear issues with front of house organisation. Persons did not know what type of fish they were giving nor the sizes and how can have an order system that serves up to numbers 118 and forget a few in the 80s and 90s with them waiting over 40 minutes and reminding the staff every 5 minutes Are they prioritising Uber over customers in the shop or just not up to it? Asked for 2 large cod got a large haddock and a medium cod. Chips had been on the side for a while and were at best lukewarm - really a waste of time as all but the cod went in the bin. Sad to see a good chippy go so...
