I recently had the pleasure of visiting Phyllo Bakehouse in Archway, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of amazing. Mr. Abdulilah, provided outstanding service throughout my visit, and the quality of the coffee and pastries was simply superb.

It's clear that Mr. Abdulilah's passion for coffee shines through in every cup he serves.

Read moreWhen Phyllo opened, because it's so close, I thought I'd try their tiropita (flaky pastry covered feta) with very little expectation of anything half decent. To my utter astonishment I ate my very first exquisite example outside Greece EVER. The pastry divinely crisp all the way through with a slight hint of cinnamon, and the cheese so plentiful, I could actually savour it through all the heavenly pastry. I would very gladly have paid double for such amazing quality in this day and age. I guess they employed someone who really knew how to bake initially, while they grew their customer base, so for too short a while, I was able to enjoy my local bakery by indulging in a daily tiropita. Sadly, it didn't last - I stopped buying daily as the cheese content became less and less, and like most english baking including cheese, the latter became imperceptible, the cinnamon disappeared, and the pastry became the same soggy mess that I would expect from most mass-produced baking. I gave them one last chance today, but had to give it to the pigeons - it was now inedible. Pity, but not totally...

I asked if there was any sugar in it and they didn’t seem to know. After checking the bottle (matcha is normally a powdered green tea) turns out it was mainly sugar. I paid £4 and asked them if I could have something else which they seemed unhappy about. They gave me a green tea and on I went. I went once more and ordered a hot oat milk. The service again was a bit rude about my drink order (I know I order unusual things but it’s what I like!). They then charged me £2.50 which felt too much (most places charge £1 maximum).
If you’re not fussed about what you drink may not be an issue but it was partly the attitude of staff and management that I put me off....
