Fantastic flavours, reasonably-priced - definitely worth it! It's no accident they have such good reviews.
This was recommended to us by a colleague's workmate who had eaten from there a few times, arranging to ring orders through and collect. As we were staying at a nearby Ibis (couple of miles up the road) we took a stroll down here to try it out.
It's not actually a restaurant, more a takeaway with a few tables. The counter has a large array of sweets in the main section with savoury food (samosas, kebabs, chicken) to the chillers left and right... you'd get the impression they do sweet things with some curry on the side!
Nonetheless, once we were seated they offered a menu to select from - we chose Lamb Madras and Chicken Kharai, a single tandoori nan and pilau rice (basmati with peas, rather than coloured) and two cobra. The meal didn't take long to arrive and was surprisingly good: the lamb was soft in a thick dark rich madras sauce with a nice heat; the Karai surprised me - quite light in colour but sharp and clean to the taste, with peppers and onions that were still al-dente, as though they were added later (crunchy, not soft) so retained their bite. Also provided was a complementary small plate of fresh salad, giving a minor fresh crunch with everything else on the plate.
I found everything had an excellent taste, just the right amount for two people and great value at around 25. Being in the middle of nowhere it's not like they have huge competition around but was surprised at just how good it tasted, and it's easily beat some larger places hands-down. I heartily recommend it myself, and will make a bee-line for this place the next time I'm...
Read moreI usually wouldn’t respond further, but after reading your replies to both my review and my friend’s, I feel it’s important to address a few things—not just for you, but for anyone considering dining here. Rather than addressing the actual concerns raised, your reply was defensive, sarcastic, and oddly personal. Accusing people of lying, making unnecessary comments about payment, and publicly mocking customers is not just unprofessional—it’s completely inappropriate. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been open; basic respect and customer service should always come first. Firstly, reviews are a space for customers to share their experiences honestly. What’s disappointing is not just the underwhelming food, but your condescending and defensive replies. Instead of showing a willingness to listen, your responses come across as sarcastic, dismissive, and even personal.
Constructive criticism is not an attack. It’s an opportunity for reflection and improvement. But instead of showing openness, you chose to dismiss feedback with attitude and assumptions, even suggesting "karma" over a review. That’s not just poor form—it’s concerning.
I genuinely hoped to have a good experience at your restaurant, and when I didn’t, I chose to share that honestly. That’s the purpose of a review. Responding with sarcasm or defensiveness only confirms that the issues go beyond the food—there’s clearly a deeper problem with how customer voices are handled here.
For anyone reading this: the way a business treats its customers—especially when things don’t go perfectly—matters just as much as what’s on the plate. This kind of attitude should give...
Read moreHi there,
Thanks for your response, but I’m genuinely disappointed by both the experience and the attitude reflected in your reply. Yes, we did try several dishes - not because we were overly hungry, but because we genuinely wanted to explore your menu and give it a fair chance. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t live up to expectations, and that's what the review was about - to give honest feedback, especially so that fellow Asians who know how these dishes should taste aren’t let down.
Saying I "cried when the bill came" is not only inaccurate but also unprofessional. I even paid for a wrongly served starter without raising a fuss - purely to avoid food waste - even though that mistake was on your end.
I’m all for supporting local businesses, and I respect that you’ve been running since 1987. But longevity doesn’t excuse poor quality or defensiveness. The matar paneer was bland, not spicy, and we were frankly shocked by how off it was. The pani puri? Completely missed the mark - I’m confident anyone familiar with authentic street-style chaat would agree.
As for the starters, they genuinely felt like they had been reheated rather than freshly made, which is concerning from a health and quality standpoint.
Instead of getting defensive or sarcastic, a humble acceptance and willingness to improve would go a long way. Reviews are a chance to reflect and grow - not everything is an attack. I sincerely hope you take this feedback as constructive. Wish you the best, and may your business thrive through quality, not just...
