This is a very nice little Portugese restaurant near Hearlthrow. It was walkable from the Doubletree where I was staying. The storefront belies the cozy interior, which gives it an intimate feel. Even so, it was not so small that I had to wedge into my seat, as is the case with many small establishments.
My waitress appeared to be part of the family ownership team. She was quite pleasant and genuinely seemed to care that I had a good dining experience. They offered some good menu choices and I have to say that what I ended up ordering was all quite tasty. I started with the green broth soup, which was a hearty preparation that came with chorizo. It arrived in a surprisingly large bowl such that I imagine it could be an entire dinner for some people. I would recommend it as it tasted quite good. For my main, I decided to try the fried (grilled) octopus, which came with potatoes (I asked for chips) and a salad. The portion was large and it was suitably spicy. I would recommend that as well.
With food and drink, my bill was £21.50 when all was said and done. I thought this was fairly reasonable for what they delivered. If I stay in the area again, I would not hesitate to make a...
Read moreThe food as off May 2017 is very good. The chef seems to put love in the its doing :) The prices are a bit overpriced and the plates could be minimised since there is a lot to savour in the restaurant. Decoration is lacking of personality and the staff is very friendly. Too many TV's which distract you and there is only one with a sound coming very low and there is also music in the background playing on top - playing brazilian music when this is a very traditional portuguese restaurant. hmmmm somethings need to change indeed to feel at home. The toilet very badly decorated or cared for in terms of updating it. The example of the food I ate was 1 bacalhau com natas, 1 portion of moelas, 1 bitoque, 1 beer, 1 juice, 1 nata and 1 bolo xadrez, totaling £34.40. Can be considered reasonable for London prices but not for what Portuguese typical restaurants do back in the country having more attention to the rest of the restaurant itself. This is just the general opinion. You have to try yours and make your own judgment. Let's bring the...
Read moreWe walked from our nearby airport hotel after reading reviews of this gem online. It was a humid day and the indoor seating area had music that was a little on the loud side, so we sat outdoors in the beer garden. Not much of a view but the breeze was nice. We ordered enough food for dinner and lunch on our flight the next day. For starters we got the PãoPao Completo (Pão, Patês, Manteiga e Azeitonas), the Chouriço Assado (which was smoked), Sardinhas Assadas (absolutely gorgeous!), and the Milho Frito (which was cubes of polenta, lightly sautéed). We got the Pork and Clams and Beef Skewer as main dishes. Both were outstanding. The beef skewer could easily feed two very hungry adults. The wines were remarkable, too. I highly recommend the Duas Quinta. Rich and plummy. Fast, friendly, and attentive service from our...
