Another disappointing experience! Been there so many times this past summer and again this morning. Food is tasteless and unappetising. Ordered the egg royale from brunch menu today and specifically asked for soft egg, made it clear that I did not want my eggs runny. The eggs are poached and has the consistency of soft boiled egg, that is when you break it it doesn't run but keeps its shape. To achieve that all you do is let it poach for a few more minutes. Simple. My egg royale arrived and the eggs were runny. I sent it back saying I wanted them soft but not runny. They come back runny again! Even without piercing the egg, it looked like a sloppy mess with hollandaise sauce swimming in everything. When the egg was pierced it became egg and hollandaise soup! I complained to the waitress who insisted this was soft, clearly she doesn't have a clue. The kitchen staff clearly less! So the sloppy soupy mess had no taste and no texture, the muffin and salmon were drowning in the slop! All in all the food is horrid. The only thing that was good was the carvery and that was before Ember Inn took over. Now if you want roast chicken, it's just a bland piece of chicken with below par potatoes and veg drowning in gravy. I must also mention the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Possibly the worst one I have ever had. Too sweet and drizzled with extra sweet chocolate sauce. Every time I go I say to myself I will never go again and this...
Read moreNice friendly staff,. The pub is fine, with a pretty standard rotation of guest ales, and perfectly acceptable quaffing wines. Interior is split into a pub area, and restaurant - both pleasantly functional. A bit of an apologetic beer garden in front, 20m away from the (minor) road does a decent enough job of an outdoor experience. Restaurant can churn out some gems - particularly if you steer clear of the Prix Fixe menu, but it feels held back by its Ember Inns commissary-like process. I feel as though maybe the chef succeeds in spite of the broader organisation. Cold dishes seem safe bets. Sunday lunches are OK - but you can easily find much better in the area. Overall, as a friendly local pub, it's fine. As a restaurant, pick your dishes carefully, and you'll be happy - carelessly, and you should still be broadly satisfied. Probably not first choice for an anniversary meal though! I continue to support them, and hope for them to be freed from their Ember Inns...
Read moreVery, very disappointed. Staff were lovely, but we waited over half an hour for a plate of vegetable linguini and ham, egg and chips. The linguini was advertised as being served in a tomato sauce. It came tossed in oil and was absolutely stone cold. My partner only ate it because she was so hungry, we had waited ages and we needed to get on the road for a long drive. My ham, egg and chips was eating temperature, but the ham was out of a packet, not carved ham, which I would expect. My peas were overdone, probably in a microwave. Finally, a family had a huge dog, and as I am severely allergic, we had to sit in a rather dark corner. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with dogs being where people are eating, especially if they are not guide or assistance dogs, which this one wasn't. It's worse when I can smell the dog as it's far more likely to set my sllergy off; I could smell this one I"m afraid. All in all, we were underwhelmed, which means that, unfortunately, we...
