Wow. The town I lived in growing up had a family owned Sicilian restaurant that was open for almost 75 years and this food reminded me of that restaurant. We started off with calamari and the garlic prawns cook in olive oil and butter. The garlic prawns was to die for.I ended up using the bread to soak up the rest of the leftover juices and garlic and olive oil. The calamari was cook perfectly and not rubbery like most places. The tartar sauce for the calamari was definitely homemade and mouth watering.
On to the mains. For me I had meat cannelloni which reminded me of the Sicilian restaurant back homes cannelloni. So tender and delicious and you could cut thru it with a fork. The pasta was not over cook or under cook and the gravy, tomato sauce, left me wanting more and more. My wife had the tuna pizza which she loved. She said it was very delicious and remind her of the tuna pizza she used to have back in South Africa.
So after we was stuffed to our limits we still decided to look at the dessert menus. The profiteroles look and sounded delicious so we each had an order. They come out with what look like a nice thick but gooey chocolate sauce over them that made taste like a bit of heaven. After finishing them, which took every empty space in our stomachs, we left feeling like a stiff pig. When the tab came we was pleasantly surprised at the price. For what you are feed you would not expect to pay these prices as they are not the outrageous London or even surrounding area food prices. This restaurant is a gem to find we will definitely be back to try more of their...
Read moreWe visited this Sicilian restaurant on Thursday. Neither Antonio or Giovanni were in the kitchen - and the standard of the food reflected this. Huge portions of slop as opposed to authentic Italian cooking. Both the owner and the staff appeared scruffy, weary and harassed. The waitress on duty wasn’t attentive. Seats uncomfortable and the kitchen door left wide open with the smell of cooking permeating the restaurant. My pizza got burnt, an honest admission by the waitress, but she needn’t have told us. Everyone in the restaurant had to endure the smell of it. I sampled my starter, a tasteless salmon prawn starter and returned my pizza less 2 slices of the thick, watery mess that was supposed to be a tonno a cipolla. Quite simply - not good enough. I had a friendly chat with the owner who appeared exasperated with my criticism. The wine was good and was granted free of charge to account for the disappointment with the food. I felt sorry for my guests as the restaurant was my choice and I let them down. We won’t be returning not only because the food was so poor but the atmosphere wasn’t what we expect of an Authentic...
Read moreAlways seemed busy so gave it a go with a small group of friends.
Nice setting but could hear the pub area in the room next door which kind of interfered as it was so much louder in there.
Server was new maybe, but wasnt very engaged and no follow up during the main course to ask how everything was. Small issue but a very simple expectation.
Manager or senior serving staff was much more engaged but we didn't have much interaction with him.
Food was really average. Chicken Milanese was very bland, with the chicken a bit oily and the spag bol tasting like it came out of a can.
At the end there were 2 staff members laying cutlery on all empty tables whilst we waited to potentially order dessert but took too long so ended up just getting the bill.
Probably wont go back as it was just very...
