There are actually no good Tandoori restaurants in Barnet, and Shapla is no exception. The staff are efficient but somewhat testy in their attitude. Food was served in good time, but when asked how everything was for the second time I decided to give my honest opinion. As a regular traveler to India, I have some idea of what to expect from a dish, even allowing for the British palette, the Mutter Paneer was completely flavourless. If the sauce contained any tomato, onions or cashew nut and Garam masala as it should, then I have lost my sense of taste. Just bland paneer and peas in some kind of pale mixture. I was told in response to this that mutter paneer is a ‘mild dish’, as though I am not to the know the difference between chilli and spice. The chicken Tikka had not been anywhere near a tandoor oven that day and arrived dry and and almost without flavour. The onion ‘raita’ again, a spoonful of onion sitting on a blob of yoghurt. Not mixed, no cummin, no salt, nothing. The pilau rice was cool, yellow and void of any taste or aroma. My fellow diners agreed with me as we lamented the fact that sat in an empty restaurant on a Thursday night and wondered when there will be a decent Indian restaurant...
Read moreWe have been going there for few years. At one point we stopped as the food deteriorated, most of the vegetables in the curries were half cooked and raw. When we told the boss - he did not like it, he gets a bit sensitive... Recently we stopped ordering poppadoms as they immediately bring the pots with chutney and charge nearly £3 just for the chutney. Then, when you finished with the poppadoms they take away the chutney - and put it on another table. And so on. What really put us off was that we noticed they do not put fresh chutney but just top up the used one which is disgusting when you know the same chutney has been on another table and perhaps one more...the hygiene and food standards are questionable. The other put off about this place are large groups of men who after being in a pub fancy passing by for a curry and - behave. The noise at times is unbearable. Otherwise staff is kind and the food overall not too expensive (compared to...
Read moreI'm highly disappointed about the chicken tikka biriyani I ordered... I asked to put extra green chilli on it or special naga chill mix with the biriyani... but when I open the box I didn't found any of them! Though I ordered chicken tikka hardly I found not more than 4/5 tinny chicken slices on it ! Is that why I paid £7.95 for my biriyani? Simple they just runined my dinner... !! This not the proper biriyani they made! Chef just made it like plain rice with some garabii then added few slices of chicken tikka on top!! That's how they made biriyani!! Obviously I'm not going back to have the worst quality biriyani from them again..!! Ohh don't ask for a spoon and napkin if u order take away food from them as I didn't found any of them In my bag.... finally I wiped my hand on my back!!!
NOT RECOMMENDED TO OTHERS... just try at...
