I booked Slayer after seeing the wave of hype across social media, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations.

On arrival, the atmosphere was surprisingly flat. The downstairs dining room was strangely quiet, with none of the inviting smell of pizza you’d expect. We were seated near the garden room, which was uncomfortably cold — made worse whenever staff or customers left the door open. Oddly, despite plenty of free tables both upstairs and downstairs, staff were turning people away or directing them to the garden space.

The drinks menu was uninspired, with very few non-alcoholic options, and the wine list lacked clarity. My glass of red turned out to be unpleasantly dry, and the vague menu descriptions made it hard to choose with confidence.

When the pizzas arrived, they looked promising and the aroma was fantastic. Toppings were genuinely impressive — I’d rate them 8/10 for quality and flavour. Unfortunately, the dough and crust let everything down. They tasted flat, almost as if the base had been pre-baked, then topped and reheated, giving it a stale, chewy texture.

We tried the ā€œ226ā€ (though the menu could really use clearer descriptions) and the Pepperoni. The latter had to be sent back as it was uncooked — something I’ve never had to do with a pizza before. It was overloaded with unnecessary additions like soft cheese and onions, which left the base soggy and the dough raw in the middle. The chopped salad, which turned up only after we’d almost finished eating, also felt confused — the addition of pickled onions and celery added more distraction than freshness. The ranch dip was perhaps the biggest disappointment: instead of creamy and tangy, it tasted like gone-off salad cream.

For two people, the bill came to around Ā£90 — not a small amount given the quality of food and experience.

That said, I do want to highlight that the staff were very helpful, especially the manager, who handled the issues with professionalism and care. The service was easily the best part of the evening.

To be fair, Slayer has only just opened, and new restaurants often take time to find their rhythm. But the fundamentals of the pizza — the dough, the bake, and even the sides — simply weren’t right. Unless there’s a significant turnaround, I wouldn’t rush back, though I’d be open to trying again in six to eight months if they manage to refine...

Having moved from NYC and living close by we were beyond excited for this place. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment.

First the great: the garden and upstairs terrace are really beautiful and it makes for a really cozy and romantic environment.

However, this was ruined by the quality of the pizza and the service. It’s not a New York style pizza (they just seem to overcook them to make it ā€œcrunchyā€), but that would still be fine. The issue we had is that it is just not very tasty. It’s not very bad, it’s just meh.

Combine that with the fact that we had to wait a long time before we could order. After we finished our meals, we waited for over an hour (!!) before we could waive down a waiter to get us the bill. Instead of the bill we asked for, they brought us the dessert menu which just added insult to injury. The people at the table next to us stood up and left after having to wait forever for any service as well. A bit surreal.

A final note: we had half a pizza leftover and when we asked to take it home they gave us a small bin which didn’t even fit one slice.. We asked if instead they could give... you know.. a pizza box, but they said they didn’t have them. It was just funny at that point. Have they ever been to New York?

Anyways, in sum, especially considering the higher price for their pizza, the quality is really just not that good overall. Hopefully they improve but for now I will...

Slayer Restaurant is hands down one of those places you can’t stop talking about. The signature cocktails are spot on — perfectly mixed, beautifully presented, and dangerously easy to drink.

To start, the Slayer Parma is an absolute must. It’s full of flavour, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients.

The pizzas are next-level good. The crust is perfectly crispy, the toppings are fresh, and the pepperoni pizza is the real winner. It’s got that incredible mix of salty, a bit sweet, and just the right kick of spice that keeps you reaching for another slice.

And then there’s the OMG Tiramisu — it seriously lives up to its name. Creamy, rich, and just the right balance of coffee and cocoa, it’s the perfect way to finish the meal. They’ve also got a really nice selection of Italian wines that go perfectly with the food.

Overall, Slayer has everything you want in a night out — killer food, great drinks, and a relaxed vibe that makes you want to come...

This is a tough review as I really wanted to love Slayer but unfortunately it just didn’t hit the mark. I even didn’t finish my slices which is a rare for me. The staff were friendly and helpful and the interiors are beautiful. I ordered two slices and both felt particularly low quality in terms of ingredients - it felt like a dollar slice from NYC (with way more flop) and not a premium slice shop. Their motto ā€˜No flop just crunch’ couldn’t have been further from the truth. The margarita slice felt low quality ingredients wise but was the better of the two. The crust is really great but the rest of the pizza didn’t live up to the standard expected. I hope that these are just teething issues as the interior and area are perfect.
