I have high expectations for restaurants with award, but this visit unfortunately is a disappointment. They were being voted as the finalists at the national award, and perhaps the only representative in london. However, there are a few problem. I ordered 2 large fish, 1 haddock, 1 cod, but as you can see the two portion are not equal. The chips, it is over fried, and as i observed, they will fry the chips at the time of ordering to keep it fresh, but every chips that they made is brown. Some people prefer brown, but i prefer it to be golden yellow, when it is too brown, the potato mash inside will dry out. The ordering system. We were there to sit in, and waiting in front of the cashier to order, however, it takes a longgggg time before someone told us to go on their website and order online, meanwhile they said they welcome to order at the restaurant and cash is also welcome. The price for online website and the price on their restaurant menu is not the same. Curry is not fresh and doesnt taste good. The fish are not fresh enough and u can barely taste ‘fish’. The texture of the fish itself is hard, but not tender. Usually if the fish is good and fresh, when they are freshly made, u will be able to see the fish is like pieces by pieces linked together. But the fish here is taste a bit bland and rough. The fish batter is just crispy, but way too crispy, and it is also not golden yellow which affects the presentation. And i cannot taste why this is a good batter, because for a good fish and chips, you do not need extra salt and vinegar to bring flavour after it is served. It should be ready to eat and should taste delicious when it is served. Overall, i think there are rooms for...
Read moreI have been wanting to write this review for about a year now but have not gitten around to it. I see a lot of reviews comparing it to the past ownership and quality. I think a simple way to sum up Stones is good quality and good price. A few things i want to touch on that i did prefer with the old ownership were the chips, battered sausages, curry sauce and packaging although i realise that me mentioning the packaging is me just nitpicking and does not effect the quality. I feel like the flavour of the battered sausage itself is not as nice, the chips seem to taste different, and the curry sauce also either a different recipe of different supplier. I also want to mention the homemade fishcake seems to have recently been hanged to feature what appears to be sweet potato and has a completely different taste, whilst this taste is not bad and is also very nice, i do still prefer the traditional recipe both the old and new owners used. The actual shop looks nicer than ever and the staff are all friendly as can be still. I also notice that the owener always responds to reviews which is always a bonus. Also on a side not i wonder what happened to the young lad who always served me. Overall Stones is still a very very good place to eat at however they have gone through some small changes with the menu which is expected when new owners take over and just how it is in the food industry. All in all i would recommend Stones to anyone who wants a decent meal at a...
Read moreThis was my first visit, my daughter had been craving fish and chips, so I decided to give her a treat on a Monday evening. As I walked in I was greeted by Jack (So polite) I really felt very welcomed and valued, even though I had never been before. The decor was amazing, very clean. We ordered a large fish and chips, there were even handmade crisps they had fried to give away while you wait. Fish was freshly prepared (amazing) The first bite of my chip tasted like heaven, everything well seasoned, onion vinger (my chosen favourite) and salted just right. Fish was perfectly battered and fried. I would definitely visit again as they have a variety of things on their menu. First impressions go a long way & the tailored customer service is the icing on the cake. I ordered a home made chocolate brownie slice too, but I haven’t tucked into that, but if the food is this good, I’m sure dessert would be spectacular. Thank you...
