I am very old customer and used to go to restorent every week from its opening time.

Recently  they change policy and refuse to give extra sambhar when we order any dish 1 tiny cup of sambhar is neglegiible and not enough at all.

No Indian restaurant denies to give additional Sambar.

We paid full what ever cost and used to go every week.

I offered to give extra charg for extra cup of sambhar but they want to sell big bowl of sambhar that costs 2.5 £ and equal to 5  small cup that is not required and they did not gave us small cup. Owner is resistant to understand customers issue/respect

I am surprice while pay full manu cost and also they increased many time recently and we happily paid. Why they want to loose their reputation by this kind of bad behaviour/decision. They want more money then should add in cost of dish. people comes to restorent to have good time not bearring this kind of unprofetional behaviour.

I stopped visiting them, they need to reconsider their ethics if want good customers. TASTE OF INDIA If you love good custome i guess you are going to rectify  and clerify this here.

Edit 1 Thanks for reply. This happened before 2 month then i stopped visiting. you can see no of similiar reviews before 3 month Looks like you rectified this inbetween? If you rectified this then its good please confirm .

Edit 2 We called restorent and they confirm that they will provide unlimited sambhar now. They remove restriction from sambgar. I seen new menu with increased rate but that is fine. We started again going their . Of course food is good. Service is good. I am happy that they understand and taken action to improve facility...

Apparently there are two of them and this review is for the non veg version of the restaurant. Went there in the evening on a holiday and it was packed so had to wait for a good 20 mins to be seated, however the queue was professionally handled by the waiters and then it all went downhill from there. On a first glance at the menu, prices seemed a bit on the higher side in comparisons to other surrounding restaurants in East Ham high street. The soup (individual serving) that we had was a small portion and quite spicy (guess that is norm in this type of places), however my main gripe about the soup is the prawn that was in there in the soup was diced from whole prawns, for a price of £4.80 a soup in a tiny bowl should have had whole prawn and not diced! The fish biryani was tasty however the pieces of fish in the biryani were just fried pieces of fish that they serve as 'Fish 65' appetizer, not a proper piece of fish cooked for the purpose of the biryani, paid £9.50 for that. Had chicken malai, which was supposed to be very non spicy, even checked with the waiter before ordering, however came quite spicy, with a dark coloured malai sauce!! £7.50 Had mango lassi, which was of just a standard taste, nothing extraordinary, and the glass it came in, I would say was smaller than usual size, however price was £3.70. I dont mind paying this price, as long it seems good value for money, unfortunately I could not say the same for this place. For two people, the bill was £53. Having said this, there seemed to be a long queue of people waiting to eat there, I just wonder if there are any repeat...

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a varied experience. The podi dosa was exceptional, while the idly, vada, and sambar were enjoyable. The chutneys were inconsistent, and the drinks were disappointing. The dessert was a highlight. The ambiance felt authentic, though hygiene could be improved. Service was generally attentive, but not all staff were well-informed.

Detailed Review Dish-wise:

Podi Dosa (5/5): Outstanding in both portion size and flavor.

Idly (3.5/5): Good but not remarkable.

Vada (4/5): Flavorful and satisfying.

Sambar (4.5/5): Delicious and complemented the dishes well.

Red Tomato Chutney (1.5/5): Bland and tasted slightly off.

Coconut Chutney (3.5/5): Above average but not exceptional.

Green Chutney (3/5): Average in taste.

Mysore Masala Dosa (4/5): Tasty but didn't quite meet my expectations.

Veg Uttapam (4.5/5): Light, fluffy, and surprisingly delicious.

Mint and Lemon Mojito & Ginger Mojito (1/5) : Both drinks were disappointing, tasting like they were made from syrup rather than fresh ingredients.

Dessert (4.5/5): Delightful and a specialty of the restaurant.

Overall Experience and Service

The restaurant exudes an authentic Indian atmosphere, enhancing the dining experience. However, cleanliness was a concern, with spider webs and slightly dirty tables and cutlery detracting from the overall experience. Most of the staff were attentive and provided good service, though one server seemed either inexperienced or uninterested, lacking knowledge about the dishes. Overall, it was a mixed experience with notable highlights and areas needing...

East Ham is fortunate to sport two branches of Taste of India (TOI). This is a review of the large vegetarian branch on the corner of High St North and Byron Avenue. For meat and seafood eaters there is a smaller branch on the other side of High St North. We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday and were lucky to be escorted immediately to a table with comfortable seats at the side of the restaurant, a quieter table than we are used to. The waiter and other staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We are fairly well known at TOI. Weekend evenings are usually extremely busy from 7 onwards, we were happy that we didn’t need to wait for a table. For starters I had Rasam. This varies a little from day to day, it was most delicious and seemed to cure symptoms of a light cold I’d been having. The balance of spicy heat, bitterness and sweetness was most comforting. My companion tried Vada Rasa. The Vada tastes fresh and delicious, the perfect complement to the bowl of Rasam surrounding it. We then shared Cashew Pilau Rice, Bhindi Masala, Chettinad Mushroom and plain Nan. The rice and mushroom dishes were new to us. The rice was perfectly cooked with a lovely texture and delicate flavour from the cashew nuts. The Chettinad sauce was incredibly rich and tasty, the clove and cinnamon adding top notes to the sauce. We rounded off the meal with delicious Masala Tea. An absolutely lovely meal that we were able to enjoy alongside our conversation without interruption. Once again a fabulous meal from TOI.

THE RESTAURANT REFUSED EXTRA SAMBAR! Looks like from Christmas 2023, the manager/owner put a new rule that only 1 additional serving of sambar and the chutneys will be provided, beyond which it will be chargeable (at £2.5 per additional sambar bowl). There’s multiple problems with this: 1. It is BLASPHEMOUS! It’s like refusing additional ketchup at McD or extra oregano/chilli flakes at an Italian restaurant. Back in south India you should be thankful if there’s no war arising from this. 2. The oversized dosai was about 2.5x the regular size but the sambar cup was so tiny. For a small dosai, one would bare minimum have 3-4 cups of that alone, and for this huge one, just 2 tiny cups? I heard so much about the restaurant form multiple people but this is utter disappointing. Not like I asked for a whole bucket of it anyway, in which case I might still understand. 3. Nowhere was there a mention/ disclaimer of the sambar being chargeable. Even if it was, 2 cups is definitely not enough. If the restaurant wants to cut costs, pls figure out other ways. It’s very rude to refuse customers extra sambar and chutney and definitely is not a reflection of the South Indian culture. I gave additional star for service only because the waiters were actually very humble and would’ve happily given more servings otherwise if not for the orders from the higher ups.

This restaurant was a mixed bag for me. I went there for biryani and it was delicious. It is not what you typically get as a Hyderabadi biryani but they never claimed that it is a Hyderabadi biryani. Food was good but the attention to details was missing big time. They were so off that my whole experience was spoiled. Here are some of the things which I didn't like: 1. Their seating/dining area is nice. Good, clean chairs but the utensils in which they serve food are horrible. Look at the attached video. My plate was actually rotating. I told my waiter about it, he smiled and went away. No intention to replace it for a better experience. 2. Mango lassi is good but it is very thick. Thick Mango lassi is ok if you serve it with the right straw. Their straw is totally useless for their lassi. It is thin and poor quality. I had to eat my lassi with a spoon. 3. No soap and paper towels in the toilets. I went on a weekday lunch and there were hardly any people in the restaurant and yet, for some reason, they were out of napkins in their toilets. I hope the management pays some more attention to details. Most of them are easy fixes which will have a big impact on customer experience.
