The Amber Fort — Restaurant in London

Myself and my family have been regulars at this restaurant ever since its opening way back in the ‘noughties’. My elderly mum lives just a stones throw away and we always use it for birthday celebrations between me, my mum and three brothers - along with various girlfriends, nieces, nephews and friends. I can honestly say that I cannot remember ever having a bad meal there! The service is very attentive and professional - although it helps that my mum share’s the same street as its owner, who is always very polite and accommodating - and the food is always top notch. A big favourite of ours is the Chicken Tikka Jalfrazi but they also have a number of tasty specialties, such as the Chicken Sarassen along with delicious vegetarian sides and alternatives and a licensed bar. The restaurant is very nice and atmospheric, the only downfall being that it gets so busy sometimes, especially during Banquet nights, that you can find it hard to hear yourself talk! Have always found eating here to be a great experience. However I can't really say the same for my recent take away order (30/09/16). From the pics on the website, I thought I'd order a Lamb Puri and a Sheek Kebab as I didn't want a big meal. Presentation let the whole thing down. In the container, there were two Skeek kebabs which looked very dark and dry.

The tiny pieces of lamb were the same quality as the kebab but looked as if fresh sauce had just been poured over them. The puri was very oily indeed.

Very disappointingly was the salad collected with the order. It was NOT in a container but came in a small white plastic bag with a knot (which I don't think was a proper food bag either).

I had thankfully cooked my own white rice and although my order were just starters, I only ate half of it. The food wasn't really hot either, considering I live two roads away and the order was picked up and driven home by car; it had to warmed in the microwave. Excellent local Indian to go to with top customer service. So polite and such attention to detail.

I adore this place it is like an old fashioned Indian restaurant where customer service and a high level of performance are still in the meal. The table is decorated really well and they make sure to change your table cloth if it gets dirty before desert. There is close attention to your needs, a polite attentiveness around getting you extra drinks and checking everything is OK with your meal.

The food is exquisite. The chicken i have here is always succulent. The rice is always cooked well. The food has enough flavour without being over spiced.

I have frequently been offered little extras like a little tipple at the end of my meal for free. I have also had a free hot towel and mint at the end of service.
