First time visiting this little gem in the not so busy part of Putney high street. This place is small, cosy and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I have been meaning to come here for a while and glad I finally was close enough to do so.
We were hungry and fancied a Sunday roast to my surprise I noticed they do offer it on Sundays between 12-8pm.
We ordered the leg of lamb from the menu as our choice. X2 adult sizes and x2 children sizes.
It was very well presented and looked good on the plate. But the only downside was that the lamb pieces were mainly all fat. There wasn't enough meat to actually eat and enjoy properly. Most part of my lamb was actually undercooked and even red and raw and didn't have a good smell. The trimmings were all nice and tasty and fresh for sure.
Due to the fact of being very hungry having just finished swimming across the road I ate what I could from the meat with the sides and became full.
Bearing in mind that I was also feeding my two little ones who were also very hungry before myself.
I would have complained straight away had it not been my children being tired and wanting to eat something before going home to rest.
I must admit I was expecting more from this roast but I was disappointed that this experience made me feel like if I were to return I wouldn't risk ordering food any more. Maybe only drink's because we did really enjoy the setting and outdoor secret garden.
The girl who served me at the bar today was helpful, professional and polite just as shame I didn't catch her name.
She was apologetic and friendly and she would be one reason I do hope to go back for a drink...
Read moreWent to this pub with my family for Father’s Day and it was a pretty ordinary experience. The roast lamb was tasteless and the roast beef was almost inedible; so much so that I sent it back and got a fish and chips instead which was ok. The kid’s meals were fine and the portion sizes were good. After our mains we had to wait around 20 mins for the puddings to arrive. When we challenged one of the waitresses she apologised and told us that they were very busy which seemed odd as the pub didn’t look particularly full. I would have given it only one star save for the fact that the waitresses were pleasant, accommodating and empathetic towards us. Also when the sticky toffee pudding eventually did arrive, it was delicious. The pub was clean and had nice garden tucked away at the back of the building. It would probably be a better place to go for a few pints while watching sports on the numerous screens...
Read moreA lovely pub really well run and with great beer. My wife and I came for the pub quiz tonight and decided to get some food beforehand. I chose to have the beef pie, served with mash and veg. It was incredible. The mash was weapons grade. The kind of mash that's called 'Pomme Purée on The Great British Menu. It was smooth, buttery and creamy perfection. The pie itself with a home-cooked all enclosed shortcrust pastry with the perfect colour, no soggy bottom and stuffed full of great beef steak and a really rich gravy. This did not come out of a freezer, it was made on the day. Utterly sublime food.
The quiz was fantastic too, and we came third. Challenging, but the quizmaster was fantastic at his job, he could be West Putney's favourite light-entertainer with his wit and banter.
A fantastic experience all in, the pub was busy and the crowd was friendly. We'll be coming back a...
