On the early afternoon of Sunday the 8 September 2024, I went to The Classic Greek restaurant, at 1366 High Rd, Whetstone, London N20 9HJ. As I walked into the empty restaurant, and unknown to me, the staff were sitting out side enjoying the sun. It was over minute before any of them came to take my order. I ordered a Lamb Giros ÂŁ7.20p. The assistant gave a small portion of chips to sample, while my order was being prepared. The chips were very nice but very salty. The assistant took some chips for my meal from the same pot as the sample ones they gave me, and puts them in a fryer, but unnecessary ads more salt to the chips, and starts to grill seven small Cubes of Lamb. When the Lamb Cubes were ready, the assistant gets a thick round type of wrap and covers it in Tzatziki, ads the seven small Cubes of Lamb, Green Leave,Tomato and Onions.
I requested that the assistant put some salt over my Salad & Lamb Cubes. It beggars believe what the assistant did next. They took my wrap, and instead of putting salt over my Salad and Cubes of Lamb, the assistant puts the chips all over every thing and then drowns the already over salty chips in salt. I asked the assistant have they got any lemon juice, I'm told only a slice lemon and I assumed the assistant were going to put the slice of lemon in my wrapped up meal.
I get to my car and start to eat my Greek meal. There's no slice of lemon in the food wrapping. The chips were so salty, they were unpleasant to eat. There was no salt on the lamb and the salad. Five piece of the Lamb Cubes were uneatable, as they were grisly and rubbery! I through them out for the birds. All in All, this was the worst Greek meal I have ever eaten! I'm afraid this is the classic case of, The Classic Greek restaurant, that will be going out of business...
Read moreWe ate here yesterday and were a little disappointed, unfortunately, by both the service and the food. The portion sizes were decent and so were the prices. However, the food itself across the board was underwhelming. The moussaka was really quite bland and mostly consisted (80%) of a potato filling. The pork was cooked well and juicy but fries were stale, dry and a bit tough! The souvlaki wrap was ok but again, quite tasteless and overly salty. We were disappointed by the service as the food took over 45 mins. Itâs a small cafe like restaurant so we werenât expecting the longish wait. The zucchini starter we had ordered also came out with the mains, and it would have been appreciated if weâd been told that that would be the case - nothing worse than ordering starters and having to wait til your mains arrive to start munching! The fried zucchini itself was ok but quite soggy. Finally, when requesting the bill to pay, the gentleman brought over both the bill and card machine to pay but seemed to expect us to make payment without seeing the bill. I had to ask to see the bill FIRST. I asked for the âoptionalâ service charge to be removed. Not surprisingly there was no farewell or pleasantries as we left⌠Iâm sure itâs a great establishment but I wonât...
Read moreGreat food, generous portions and lovely people. We've been here before so had high expectations which it still exceeded.
We had the spicy feta dip and olives to start. Both came with beautifully toasted flat bread and were really tasty. The kalamta olives had oregano and lemon which just made them zing.
We then had the pork steak and lamb skewers, which were both perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The pork steak was thick, juicy and just everything I wanted it to be. The salad was nicely dressed and balanced out the meat. The tzatziki tasted really fresh and the chips were beautifully crispy.
Great value for money, so tasty and everyone there was really friendly. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area. We also had 2 large glasses of wine each, so that is included...
