REALLY BAD EXPERIENCE but at the end of the day that bad experience have led us to a GREAT experience else where(at PALMIYE KITCHEN). See below: My wife and I was walking down the road looking for a Meal deal during lunch time. We saw the sign(picture below) in front of cocorico, so I chosen my dishes beforehand based on the sign displayed: Spagetti bolognese and calamaris. So we enter the restaurant and asked for the normal menu and the LUNCH meal deal menu. As we started looking at the lunch meal deal menu(picture below) given to us inside the restaurant, we noticed that it wasn't accurate, therefore the huge sign outside in front of the restaurant was FALSE ADVERTISING. I called the waiter(a tall white guy) who came with a bit of attitude saying that "we had only 5 minutes to order the lunch meal deal", I asked him why is the advertisement outside not matching with the lunch meal deal menu given to us, he said well: "the menu given inside is the accurate one and the sign outside wasn't right but they have ordered a new sign" I told him: well, you guys should definitely NOT place this sign outside as this is false advertising and not fair or right on the customers. The guy in a very bad attitude and tone of voice said: "go speak to my manager" . I told him: I am telling you the issue, and you should be the one ensuring your manager will action this appropriately. The waiter kept given me the cold shoulders along with his bad attitude, so I had to apologise to my wife and left the table as this was definitely NOT the way to deal with the situation. INSTEAD: 1. Apologise to the customer for your messy and misleading false advertisement. 2. If the sign outside wasn't accurate OR you have requested the sign to be modified then do NOT display the sign outside OR at least advise customers AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or COVER the item/dishes you can't provide(calamari and Spagettibolognese). 3. In this specific ocassion, the waiter should have contacted the manager IMMEDIATELY to ask if an exemption would be acceptable so that the customer wouldn't be penalised due to your false advertisement! Simple as that. But.... as I said in the beginning of this review. This bad experience led us to a great experience at PALMIYE KITCHEN, which has provided us with: 1.very friendly staff. 2. MORE variety dishes on the luch meal deal menu. 3. IMPRESSIVE portion. 4. Costing less than your(cocorico) false advertisement meal deal lunch. 5. More flexible/Longer time for the lunch deal (until 4 pm). Customers should definitely be careful with false advertisement from cocorico, I wouldn't recommend. I am only thankful that you led us to a great experience at PALMIYE KITCHEN which we will come back and definitely recommend...
Read moreI visited the restaurant today and the service and attitude from all staff was absolutely disgusting to say the least. However in particular a man who said his name is Lorenzo was the most shocking. The first waiter we had was so grumpy around us but so happy around other tables no matter how much we smiled or polite we were. I was told by the waiter that a specific dish was nice and that the saffron was not harsh to the taste . I explained this was ok however should it not be as described could I change it. I was advised that this would not be a problem. The food arrived and I tried it and unfortunately it was not as described. I explained this and Lorenzo huffed and puffed. However he said he will change the dish. He also made very rude comments about my taste pallet saying that oh because you are used to English fish you do not know the taste of fresh sea food as he is from the sea side and I am not . Who is he to know where I am from and what nationally I am. I said to him that the crab in the pasta was not the issue. However he then continued to say next time get pasta with butter. I was in absolute shock!!!! I asked to get some calamari instead. When the bill came I was charged for the pasta I did not consume. I questioned this and Lorenzo came to the table in a wrath. Telling me that it’s not his fault I did not like it. You would think as a returning customer they would at least treat you with some dignity but Lorenzo continued to speak to me rudely. He told me that if you ordered champagne and did not like the bubbles it’s your own fault. I explained I’m happy to pay for the food I ate however he is aware the dish was untouched and was happy to exchange it beforehand. He continued to speak to me with a raised voice and became angrier and defensive when I explained my view on the situation. I explained I’ve never had an issue like this with the staff before and that the owner is a very nice man. Lorenzo laughed in my face and commented who’s the owner ? As if I I was lying and do not know what I am talking about. He then continued to tell me that he has worked in restaurants for over 30 years. I told him I have worked in hospitality myself and would never speak to a customer in this way. He was trying to say that he knows best because he has worked in this industry long enough apparently. I am very disappointed and hurt by the treatment I have received today. I felt discriminated and stereotyped by the staff. If this review is read by the owner I would love for you to get in contact with me regarding the...
Read moreSeven of us visited the restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening - it was absolutely heaving with people so it was a good job we had booked.
The staff are all friendly and efficient, we were attended to without having to call someone over. They checked up on us at good intervals - not so easy to get right as too long interval might make you feel forgotten and too short intervals would seem as if they're hassling you - perfect.
The solid square table accommodated us all, the chairs were sturdy and comfortable, plates, glasses and cutlery were nicely laid out and everything nice and clean.
Orders for drinks to start off with, everything served together and accurately. Orders for starters and mains taken next, all starters coming together, cleared away in one go, mains served together and again cleared in one go. With the restaurant so busy I was impressed that the standard of service was so good.
Everyone enjoyed their starters, arancini, calamari, salmon and prawn etc. I had the battered calamari, very good, lightly battered and crisp and I recommend it.
The mains were also very good and in decent portions. I had asked for the calf liver in balsamic vinegar to be as rare as the chef thought he could get away with and it arrived, soft, tender, juicy and tasty - lovely! The veal escalope was pronounced very good, as were the pizzas and various varieties of pasta ordered.
The bill came after the right interval and was 100% correct. 10% service charge was added as advertised on the menu which we happily paid.
The sole issue I have with the restaurant is the NOISE. The chairs were padded but apart from that all other surfaces were hard, including the exposed structure of the ceiling. Some form of noise attenuation would not go amiss as the chatter within the full restaurant bounces around the room getting louder and louder as people attempt to make themselves heard. We could only talk to who we were sitting alongside. Talking across the table was not possible.
I find the level of noise pollution within restaurants to be a massive problem. It is rare to come across a place with enough soft furnishings on the wall and sound-absorbing ceiling panels to reduce noise so that diners' conversations can take place at a normal level. There may also be the factor that some people can get so excited at dinner that they can't help but become animated and whoop like a gibbon at every opportunity. Such an eventuality cannot be blamed on...
