I've been in this pub more than ten times, always to eat and drink. Different occasions from birthday meals to just random pop in for a pretty good food. I have always said, The Great Southern is on par with The Bull in Streatham which is awesome. Unfortunately, today it was a SHOCKER! Ordered Stake as well as Fish and Chips. Stake was cooked to my liking on the border of being overcooked. Peppercorn sauce was a tragedy. The sauce supposed to complement the stake. Instead of, it tasted like a molten lava. Too hot!!! Now, to the main disaster, fish and chips. Nonexistent beer batter. That fish had to be soaked in the oil, there's no other explanation, as the oil was still dripping from the fish. SOGGY!!!. Chips had a nice texture, but... the flavour was of all foods that have ever been thrown into the fryer, as if the oil wasn't changed for a year. Went to pay, I thanked for the service, which is always good. Barman asked me. Was the food good? I have asked him whether they have a new chef. He replied, yes. He asked what's wrong. Well... You know the story from above. Unfortunately, it looks like this will be the last time we go to The Great Southern. As The Great Southern has become The Great Disaster. It's more than an hour later and after spending more than £40, I still have that appalling taste of the oil in my mouth and smell of it on my...

My wife and I visited this pub last night after noticing it a few times while passing by. Initially, we were looking forward to a pleasant evening, as the atmosphere seemed welcoming and the staff were friendly. However, our experience quickly turned unsettling.
It became clear that both the staff and some of the patrons were trying to pressure us into buying rounds of drinks, which made us feel very uncomfortable. When my wife addressed the situation with the staff, we learned that some of the customers were actually employees of the pub. The response we received was not helpful and became rather aggressive, which only made us feel more unsafe.
To make matters worse, we noticed a homeless person begging for money in the ladies’ restroom. It seemed like the staff were aware of this person and even knew them by name, yet allowed this behavior to continue. While we understand that homelessness is a complex issue, this situation made us feel very uncomfortable and contributed to an overall sense of unease.
Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling very disappointed, and we won’t be returning. It’s a shame because we had hoped to enjoy a nice evening, but the lack of professionalism and the safety concerns have made us reconsider...
Read moreWholly disappointed! Not the best pub roast, in fact I'd say the great southern is very near the bottom... the only person who was attentive to me and my family's needs was the server 'J'. We phoned ahead to let them know we were running late by 30mins (road accident) the pub was relatively empty anyway. Waited over an hour for the starters, then near enough another hour for the main course. We were left sitting there for another hour or so afterwards, no one tended to or needs (J was on a break). No "would you like to see the desert menu, coffee... anything else I can get you... the bill perhaps..." NADA! When J did come back we ordered dessert, the waffle I ordered tasted like it was a prepacked waffle; it was doughy, chewy and tasted awful so didn't eat it. Fast forward, J was very apologetic and wanted to reduce our bill, but the manager was not on the same page - him and the asst. Manager conveniently snuck off to a meeting and refused to give any deductions on our bill saying 'they were late'. Late! Really? Shame on you manager, whoever you are, definitely the first and last time, and will also be telling others...
