This is a great friendly east London pub which manages to welcome everyone and makes you feel warm and cosy. The landlord and the landlady have managed the impossible task of providing great food, a large selection of beers and wine, football / sport, music and entertainment to all who come to drink in the Hare and Hounds ... The food is wonderful and caters for all tastes whilst the real ales (Timothy Taylor and a great Guardsman at the moment) are well managed and always on tap. The red wine selection is awesome (sorry I am not into white) and I love the Rioja and the wonderful Louis Jadot French Burgundy. I am now a frequent customer and I would recommend this pub to anyone who would rather have friendship over snobbish and artificial decorum. Remember Cheers? This a place where they remember your name! This is a pub where you feel at home, regardless of who you are. A little island of humanism and reality in this increasingly modern brutal background of hypocrisy most of North London has now become. Go there and judge by yourself ... It is true and lively ... It's just...
Read moreMy first visit to what was once a favourite, and I will not be returning in a while. We were a tired and thirsty bunch, who had just ridden some thirty humid miles in my monthly 'Taking the Peaceful Route' social bike ride along the Thames Path, and were in some need of refreshment and rehydration. I had suggested this pub, as at least half the participants enjoyed real ale, and I remembered how well this pub had kept theirs on previous visits. This was probably due to the relatively recent construction of the segregated cycle lanes on Lea Bridge Rd, which had diverted the heavy traffic away from from the cellars by just enough to ensure that it no longer disturbs the contents of the place. To be told (without apology) on arrival that the beer had run out - even the lager with the pitiful exception of San Miguel - was a huge disappointment, and the background music grated on the ears. We only lingered as long as we did to avoid a sudden shower, and didn't bother complaining, as the sounds blasting from the speakers would have...
Read moreWe visited the Hare and Hounds Pub while on vacation. We came there as vacationers but leaft as family. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was made-to-order and excellently prepared by Ms. Rita herself. My wife has gluten allergies and was able to order individually prepared meals to include the English Staple of Fish & Chips. In a changing neighborhood landscape, this Pub provided an oasis for those that want to enjoy some spirits, an English Pint, some food or all of the above. Together we tried everything on the menu and enjoyed everything. And while Wednesday is Curry Night, they have a daily curry dish on the menu (we never made it there one Wednesday but we did enjoy a curry selection every time we ate there)...as good a place to eat as any of the best known pubs "Gastro-Pubs" in London.
Rita in the kitchen and Malcom behind the bar made for an exceptional experience that my entire family enjoyed. We'll have to stop in and see them on our next visit to London. When you see them, tell them that Mario and...
