What can one say about the atrocity that is J D Wetherspoons that hasn't been said before. Well, the New Cross Turnpike has to take the award for the worst JDW that I have ever had the misfortune to drink in. I find going into a JDW a bit like going into one of the big 4 supermarkets or the post office. Long queues, half the tills closed and a disinterested staff with no product knowledge, enthusiasm or expediency. Go to this pub and be prepared not only to wait an age to be served on a busy night, but also to play musical chairs. Our party of 6 were forcibly moved from our seats halfway through the evening. Security staff were threatening & intimidating. When I wrote to JDW to complain about the security staff I was astonished to receive a reply back stating thet J D Wetherspoons are not responsible for the security staff employed in their pubs!!!! Another example of how jaded, old & lacklustre the Witheredspoon format is, a little like its owner, Tim...
Read moreGood place to go for catch up with family/friends. Lively yet very large multi level building inside. Looks a lot smaller from the outside. Restaurant was great. Good cooked well. One of the steaks we asked for rare was more like ‘well done’ but apart from that everyone else’s meal was great. Ordered via the app which worked well and a lot easier that ordering downstairs at the bar. Could order just drinks on that too which was great. Smoking area provided (balcony on one level and balcony garden on another level), saves going right out the front if you are upstairs. Toilets are down quite a lengthy couple of corridors but I can imagine when they’re busier that that gets quite packed so probably makes sense really. On the whole it’s modernised older style building with a Wetherspoons twist. Looks and feels refreshing inside. I’d...
Read moreAwful pub. Our party settled down but halfway through the evening we were physically re-located against our will because the manager didn't like us sitting where we were. Security staff were threatening & intimidating. Clientelle consisted mainly of what appeared to be mainly under age teenage girls downing shots like they were goping out of fashion. Be prepared to wait forever to get served when busy. Too few staff who wanted to serve friends & regulars first. Really appalling pub. The response I got when I wrote to wetherspoons to complain about the security staff was astonishing. They told me that the security staff were not their responsibility when employed on their premises. Avoid like the plague. The Furze Wren a couple of miles down the road is a much more client friendly Wetherspoons than this shambles will...
