Absolutely lovely place to eat, drink and relax.
After being in London all week where most restaurants and pubs are very child and dog friendly, I was happy to visit a place that was 18 and over only. I love children, but it’s nice to enjoy a meal without screaming children around. I think all parents would agree.
We were able to walk here from our hotel, the Marriott. It was a lovely, short, 10 minute walk. The location is great for travelers staying near the airport.
You are seated with menus. The menus are HUGE! I’ve included pictures of all of the pages. Then you go up to order and pay at a counter. There’s a wooden spoon at your table with a number on it. You give the cashier the number. Then, you go to the bar and order your drinks. So, it’s kind of self-service.
Obviously the restaurant is good if it’s been around since 1864! But I’ll give my 2 cents anyway. I ordered the “chicken supreme” and my husband ordered the “Cumberland sausage and mash”. Mine was delicious, but it isn’t exactly how it’s described on the menu. The menu states that it’s “stuffed” with mozzarella. It’s not. It just has mozzarella cheese melted on top. The menu also states that it’s “on a bed of ratatouille”. It’s not. It has a ratatouille sauce on the side and a red pepper that’s stuffed with a kind of ratatouille (zucchini, red onion, red pepper, tomato, etc). The chicken is 2 pieces. It was well cooked and seasoned nicely.
The plate is very big! There’s a lot of mashed potatoes. I couldn’t finish my meal. As a matter of fact, I was never hungry for dinner 5 hours later! So, BIG portions.
My husband enjoyed his meal as well, but also couldn’t finish his.
The bar has a nice selection of beers, wines, and liquor.
There’s plenty of outdoor seating with and without cover.
I would definitely return to the restaurant. I love the...
Read moreWhile this would be a great place to meet friends for beers, unfortunately it is not a place to expect a good meal. The Pheasant Inn is divided in two parts, a pub and a restaurant. The pub is lively, has a great selection of beers, and has a nice outside seating area. The restaurant, however, is dated and just felt a bit stale. After reading such great reviews, my wife and I booked a table for dinner in the restaurant. When we arrived, we noticed that there was only one other table seated - and they appeared old enough to be our grandparents. We should have saw the red flag and turned around, but we were there and we were hungry…and all the great reviews. We started with a pate. While not terrible, it was nothing special. Sadly, that would be the highlight of our dinner. For our mains we ordered a steak and ale pie and a calves liver grill. First impression, the portion sizes are shocking. We each had a mountain of food in front of us. The pie looked good, but ended there. It was so salty that it was inedible. The salt overpowered the entire dish and made it impossible to identify anything in the pie. The calves liver, on the other hand, didn’t even look good. Three huge portions of over grilled liver that looked more like rubber. The liver was almost certainly frozen, and then again, over salted. We each had one bite and then asked for our check, which was £70 by the way. Again, I would still go back for drinks, but for drinks only. For a £70 dinner, you can do...
Read moreWe found this an odd place. We booked ahead, but it seems it wasn't needed - we were shown to an empty table and given menus.
However, there's no integrated ordering system nor table service: you need to order (and pay for) drinks at the bar, but then order meals at the kitchen to the side: the two aren't connected.
The meals, when they came, were pretty comprehensive and definitely represented value for money. The chilli cheeseburger was a cheeseburger stacked with chilli con carne, and although we ordered it plain it still came with a good crisp salad garnish. My lamb burger came with the same rich garnish and a very full plate of curly fries. The steak sandwich was done perfectly medium rare with crispy chips, and the mixed grill was pretty full-on - not for the faint hearted!
However, I found the customer service sadly lacking: at the kitchen the chef asked for our order then proceeded to turn away and begin barking commands at staff, ignoring me talking to him. When the meals came we then had to wait for cutlery (is it so hard getting that out in advance?) and when eating a group of waiters decided to gather next to our table and proceed to have a loud discussion, which didn't make for a relaxing meal having to endure raucous conversation nearby.
It's definitely a place to go for a good meal, but their process and customer service feel terribly amateurish. I'm not certain...
