I live in the USA and every year I book a table at the Railway Hotel in Hornchurch for my family's Christmas dinner. This has become somewhat of a tradition. Even when the unfortunate poisoning and subsequent death of customer, I continued to book a table every year. The only time that this did not occur was the year that I was informed that you did not have the staff to furnish the meal. This year was no different, I booked the table and paid the deposit from Florida as usual. I tried to pay the remainder of my deposit by phone, but after waiting over an hour and getting a non stop engaged signal I gave up. I filled in a form on your website that said that I would get a response. The response that I got was that there would be no response as you can only answer a few emails due to enquiry volume. I did not want my brother to have to pay. I wanted to take care of the rest of the bill myself. Of course, I can reimburse him, but as the meal was a gift, I wanted him to enjoy the meal without worrying about the bill. When my party arrived, they were told that there was no chance of receiving a Christmas lunch as they should have ordered at least a week in advance. They were also told that I received many emails concerning this matter with no response. I can categorically state that this is not the case. I have checked my spam folder and that too received no communication. My party asked if they could postpone the reservation, so that they could order in good time, they were told that you were fully booked, although subsequent investigation shows that this may not be the case according to your own website. The manager, a lady was a little brusque. My sister and her husband upon hearing that there was "no chance" of a Christmas dinner went home. My sister was very, very upset. My brother decided that as you already had my deposit that he would eat off the regular menu along with his daughter and wife. As they were getting ready to order another lady manager who was much friendlier and helpful said that they may be able to provide a Christmas lunch which was...
Read moreQuite disappointed by the Inn. Although we booked 3 rooms well in advance, when we got there the double room was not available because some problem with the shower. We got a twin room instead with a shower that frustrated the living daylights out of us because it trickled out at such a pathetic rate .....enough about that. The single room we booked for our daughter, had the curtains lying on a chair next to the bed with no apologies and NO effort to sort the problem out. We hung the curtains ourselves because no one wants to sleep with a street light shining into your room all night. Half of the curtain hooks were missing. There was no heating and we froze our butts off....this was rectified the next morning when temperatures dropped to below zero. We got moved to the double room the next night and again no heating in the evening. This shower was barely better than the previous room. The food in the pub was ok. Not wonderful and not really bad either. The breakfast was slap dash - thick slices of bread in a basket with an ancient toaster battling to serve one family never mind a breakfast room full of people. On Saturday morning we did get croissants as well but no cheese, nor cold meats which are all part of a continental breakfast menu. The pub was packed and I think they should put all their effort into the pub and restaurant and not offer any...
Read moreIncredibly friendly staff, attentive house keeping and all round great experience. I’m really enjoying my stay here (currently still staying) the manager “Warren” I think his name is, was amazing over the phone and super helpful to us to get us checked in earlier as we had plans.
Check in was quick and easy, the rooms are clean and the bathrooms are lovely the shower is awesome and a huge TV in front of the bed.
We also ate lunch here and the food was really good for the price, I want to give a mention to Amy who has helped us a number of times, a mention to Candy for being friendly and welcoming, a mention to the younger gentlemen with brown curly hair for being polite and informative in regards to breakfast and brunch and to Jenny who served our food this afternoon.
More than happy to give a 10/10 review for this place as we are staying here for a festival we nearly didn’t go to but I am so glad we did. The location is amazing as the tube station is just outside the hotel. Thanks everyone and we would definitely stay again. -...
