Unacceptable Service
Our dining experience this afternoon, July 5, 2025, was significantly marred by the incredibly rude behavior of a staff member, who appeared to be Thai. Her demeanor, both in how she spoke and looked at us, made us feel scrutinized and judged throughout our meal. As we were preparing to leave, this same individual loudly reprimanded us for drinking our own bottled water, stating that "in the UK it is not respectful to bring drinks inside in a restaurant." While I understand the general sentiment, her specific phrasing, "In the UK," felt inherently judgmental and implied a lack of awareness on our part about local customs. This public admonishment, delivered in a loud voice for all to hear, was entirely unprofessional and uncalled for, especially when complimentary tap water is offered. Our intention was simply to finish our existing bottled water, which would have, if anything, reduced inconvenience for the staff. Furthermore, I must express my disappointment with the green Thai chicken curry. It contained a disproportionately small amount of chicken, consisting predominantly of something like bamboo shoots. This appears to be ab attempt to maximize profit at the expense of customer satisfaction and quality, which feels disingenuous for a restaurant operating in the UK.
Next time, leave your costumers in peace and let them enjoy their food. Or you can talk with them discreetly, something that is normally being...
Read moreI have extremally mixed opinion about this place but essentially I'm looking aving one star rating under "false advertising". Only reason I've visited this place was because pop up notification from wuntu (part of dine card scheme) offered two for one on meals. After making it into day out trip, after arriving at restaurant and finally managing to get attention of person serving (she was into conversation with customer) she wasn't aware if they accept dine card (they do) and I had to pay full price for my my meal. It wouldn't be end of the day but in all honesty it seems like their prices are high to compensate for 2for1 deal. Food was tasty, could be warmer but what arrive to my table definately wasn't worth £40 (businesses in area would left me with bill of around £18-20 for two Sunday roasts with two pints). I wouldn't recommend on principle of lies, there was no issue with food...
Read moreI have been coming to the Rising Sun for about 7 years, it is my local and I have thoroughly enjoyed coming here. The Thursday night Quiz crowd are brilliant (we have a group of regulars who take it in turn to host) and it's always a lovely atmosphere. The Thai food is great and they regularly have good bands on.
The one negative, and it is a fairly important one, is that they are always running out of drinks. As I said, we come every week, my wife only drinks fruit ciders and they hardly ever have more than one or two bottles. On some nights they have had no wine. On one fateful night last year all that was left on tap was Guinness. I'm not sure why this happens but it's been going on so long it's a running joke among the regulars. Sort that out, and we'd be back to having a...
