I had the pork Sunday roast and a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All in all, the roast was okay. Unfortunately, it's a little bland for my taste. A little salt and pepper helped a long way. What I couldn’t change was the temperature. Upon arrival, my plate was quite cold. I saw the steam coming from my food, so surely the food wouldn’t be cold. The meat and some veggies were warm, but the whole dish quickly became cold. The potatoes were cold and dry, too. I wholeheartedly recommend the sticky toffee pudding. It was very delicious and not too sweet. The plate and the dessert were pleasantly warm. The service was fantastic, all around a pleasant crew.

A really good place ..great vibe , food and local beers Took one star off due to the fact that one had to go into the beer garden ( which really is very beautiful...secluded from the ravages of Islington/Hackney) to get away from the level of music played inside the pub. Can't ever get my head around why playing the volume at '11' is the establishment's way of thinking that this is the 'perfect environment'- Fortunately the weather was not too cold ...but really guys ..? If you play the music at 6 or 7 ...people will still come....you might even get more people frequenting the pub.... Try it-no?

Came here for a Sunday roast. I had the vegetarian mushroom wellington and my partner had the lamb. We both enjoyed our meals and the overall vibe. The weather was really nice so we were able to comfortably eat in the garden. The sticky toffee pudding was also amazing. It's nice to find a good veg Sunday roast that isn't boring. I believe there was a vegan roast as well. Friendly staff as well and solid beer selection - even had multiple non-alcoholic beer options.

My family and I went to The Scolt Head for my graduation dinner back in July. I still look back on that evening with fondness, warmth, and an increasingly watery mouth. The cosy yet exciting atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, spectacular food and drinks - it all felt so homely, welcoming, and fun, as if I had just entered the home of a good family friend! The staff did a phenomenal job serving our food on time and always kept the table clean, making room for more food and drink. It was a clever and efficient way to keep us drunk and happily sedated in a self-induced food coma. And we loved every second of it! The dishes that stood out the most to me were certainly the baked camembert, the oyster mushroom shawarma, and the bone marrow burger. The baked camembert was gooey and paired beautifully with the sweetness of the chutney and the nuttiness of the malty bread. It was so moreish, I forgot I was lactose intolerant. I ordered the oyster mushroom shawarma, which melted in the mouth and left behind this incredible umami, buttery, sweet taste. My grandma ordered the bone marrow burger. Even as a vegan/vegetarian, I must give credit where credit is due: the patty looked juicy, fatty and overall sensational. My grandma noted it tasted perfectly salty and full-bodied, unforgettable and totally unique! I’ll surely be coming back for more. The Scolt Head turned me into a real hedonist and I can’t say I’m...

The Scolt Head — Hackney’s Hidden Pub Gem

The Scolt Head is the kind of pub that doesn’t need to shout — it simply is great. Tucked away in De Beauvoir, it’s got that rare mix of laid-back cool, genuine warmth, and a crowd that feels like neighbours, not strangers. Whether you’re here for a pint, a roast, or a quiet chat, it delivers every time.

The drinks are well-chosen:

Rotating craft beers and ales — local, fresh, and full of character

Natural wines and classic cocktails — unfussy but thoughtful

Seasonal specials — always something new to try

The food is gastropub quality with soul:

Sunday roasts — generous, flavourful, and beautifully plated

Fish pie, burgers, and veggie options — hearty and satisfying

Desserts — homemade and comforting (don’t skip the sticky toffee pudding)

The vibe is relaxed and quietly stylish — wood-panelled walls, mismatched chairs, and a garden that glows in summer. Staff are friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming — the kind who remember your order and greet you...

The worst Saturday night ever. We were spending the evening with some friends on a table outside. At some point the security guy in an extremely rude and aggressive way asked us to move inside because they were about to close the space outside. This behaviour was extremely annoying but we decided to spend the rest of the night inside the same. After about one hour the story repeated itself. Once again, the same rude bouncer asked us to leave the place because the pub was closing. This time his behaviour was even more aggressive. We were waiting for my wife who went to the loo and he started to shout at us because, according to his words, she should have done it before. Are you serious?!? This was unbelievable! We were wearing our coats so it was clear that we were about to leave the place in a few moments. This is something that never happened to me before. It was extremely unpleasant and unacceptable. I won't come to your place anymore...
