Update 14-5-19 In all fairness they have promised to refund the full amount. Don’t do it! If you want a comfortable stay look for somewhere else. You can forget about being comfortable at the Premier Inn in Dalston as you are not permitted to be in charge of your own heating controls! I’m not joking, they are set by the reception, in so far as whether they are set heat or cool your room you literally have no control over this, beyond going to reception.
Initially I had to go straight back downstairs to get the girl on reception to come up and lock the internal adjoining doors to the next room which were both open.
I told her that the room was cold despite it being on 24˚ (the AC was set to cool not heat) and she told me that they can control the heating from downstairs and that she’d change it. I went out to pick up my dinner, came back about half hour later. When I went into the room it was boiling, well, much too warm. I went to open the window but no you can’t open the window either! It’s sealed, you’re not getting any air in the room. So I have to tell reception and I guess they change something. Soon after the room is cold, too cold! So yet again off I trundle to reception, I’m getting upset now, I’ve had a tough few days working long hours and I just want to relax before I go to bed. So they do something again and the room starts to heat up, soon after I go to bed, I leave the AC unit on but turn the fan to minimum on 23˚, what should be a comfortable temperature.
Just after 3am I wake up totally drenched in sweat, the whole duvet/sheets are soaked, it’s roasting in the room and there’s nothing I can do. I don’t get any more sleep so despite needing to rest I get just the opposite, a very disrupted sleep!
The next morning I go to work at 6.10am and head to reception to explain. I get the nightshift guy who is so unconcerned and said his manager would be in later. I’m on my way to work so I ask what time the manager finishes and the guy says 3pm. I won’t return until about 8pm (yes that’s a long day, which is why I need to rely on being able to rest when in my hotel). So I don’t get to speak to the manager at all.
When I get back from work I go straight to reception and tell the them about it. Apparently the AC is either set to heat or to cool, but this can ONLY be set by reception, you do not get any way to do it yourself in the room! Ridiculous! what am I expected to do at 3am, walk down to reception and get them to change it?
I’m not offered to move room as the guys know it’s the same system in every room. So the reception set the heating again and I go out to pick up my dinner. Same thing again when I get back it’s too hot then too cold etc etc. I have to go reception again and by now I’m really getting frustrated as I know I have another two nights stay in this hotel and I’m starting to think it’s going to be the same each night (I wasn’t wrong either, it does turn out like that!).
By this time I’m aware of the Premier Inn “Great night’s sleep guaranteed” but I don’t mention it I just want to see what the guys on reception come up with as a solution. During the conversation I tell him I woke up absolutely drenched and didn’t sleep again after 3.15am until I had to get up at 5.10am, yet he did not mention the sleep guarantee at all. The conversation continues and he tries to direct the talk away from me having had an awful night in his hotel and how the heating is controlled by reception as a cost saving exercise by the hotel. I pull the conversation back to to the fact that the sheets and duvet should have been changed because I WOKE UP ABSOLUTELY DRENCHED yet again no response from him just more diversion. In the end 3 times I mentioned the fact that I hadn’t had a “great night’s sleep” and yet still nothing! So I guess their Great Night’s sleep guarantee isn’t so much of a guarantee, more of an empty marketing slogan.
I wake up soaked again in the middle of the 2nd night. The next morning the alarm goes off and I don’t want to get up, I’m knackered! I never wake up up like that...
Read moreTwo weeks ago my wife and I were visiting our daughter and her partner in Hackney for a couple of days and we opted for this Premier Inn owing to the price, its proximity to our daughter's place and the fact we'd stayed here a few years before.
This time, we took advantage of the Premier Plus option and having checked in we made our way to our room which, at first glance, seemed fine but as we started to unpack we discovered there was no Nespresso machine, no complimentary sparkling water in the fridge and a somewhat unsightly bleach stain on the carpet, near one side of the bed.
When we informed reception, the member of staff on duty was most apologetic and upon asking a colleague about the coffee machine was surprised to learn, as were we, it had been stolen! The missing water she admitted was obviously a housekeeping oversight and as we were going out for dinner she said she would bring the water to our room herself when we returned, which she did. Then, to compensate for the lack of a coffee machine we gratefully accepted her offer of a complimentary breakfast for each of us.
The morning of our breakfast, which was on a Saturday, was extremely busy but the member of staff on duty was valiantly ensuring everyone in the dining area was receiving the attention and service they expected. We have rarely experienced a one-man wonder such as this gentleman was proving to be for, although there were one or two other staff clearing and wiping down tables as one set of guests was replaced by another, it was Everton who deserves every plaudit. For his cheeriness, his politeness and not least the indefatigable way he “kept the boat afloat” I cannot...
Read moreHotel is conveniently close to dalston station, but location is the only positive. The manager was the single worst member of hotel staff I've encountered after having stayed in countless hotels in the UK, America, Carribean, Asia and Europe. He zero communication skills and when I raised an issue he was confrontational and dismissive. Why is someone who is incapable or unwilling of being hospitable working in hospitality? Absolutely terrible! The rooms however were clean, but far from quiet. On my stay there was extremely loud thumping coming from the room above as if they were throwing things around. When I told the "manager" he suggested that my pregnant girlfriend should have called down while it was happening, or come down to reception in a tone which suggested she had done something wrong while shrugging his shoulders. Being a heavy sleeper I slept through bulk of the noise waking when it had died down to find my girlfriend awake but trying not to wake me because she didn't want us to both have poor sleep. Obviously I stayed up with her and to be honest I don't even mind that, but the staff member we spoke to was so rude to me and my girlfriend that I had to let others know. I won't go into the full conversation, but needless to say, it really shouldn't be possible to experience hostility from a hotel manager when a pregnant woman politely tells him about someone else making noise. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
I would not recommend this...
