Long story story: Do NOT book a room in this hotel. If you like hostels and want to pay hotel prices then this is the place for you. Do you enjoy sleeping? As other reviewers have mentioned, my room was also on the ground floor (i.e., the dungeon), which seems to double as a nightclub. On July 6th, 2024, at 10:30 pm, the music began. Unlike others, I couldn’t hear any singing, just non-stop bass until past 6 am. I managed to fall asleep at 3 am but woke up again at 5:45 am due to the bass. It genuinely felt like I was being punked. It wasn’t even good music—truly a dreadful experience. This was undoubtedly worse than a hostel. Do you enjoy showering on a Monday? Be sure to do it after their regularly scheduled fire alarms/drills, which you won't be informed about until you're already naked. Call to ask, right? Nope. The phone number doesn’t work. Naked, confused, and praying they respond on WhatsApp. You're in luck! When you message them to express your concern and ask for clarification, they will make sure to say “Hello” and nothing else until you ask a second time. Just what you deserve! Do you enjoy basic amenities? For £207 a night, there's no room service, just two days' worth of coffee/tea, a surcharge for cleaning staff services, and a screeching pipe every time you turn on the hot water in the bathroom. My favorite part was that if you run out of drinking water, the front desk will tell you to go across the street to the store to buy more. Have fun with your dehydration.

This hotel deserves, without exaggeration, just one star. To begin with, the neighborhood was terrible: full of addicts, homeless people, and an overall sense of danger. The room itself had no windows, was dusty, and came with only a single roll of toilet paper — additional rolls had to be requested at reception. Housekeeping never came during our stay, and the mattress was already sagging after just one night. When we tried to check out during the night, the security guard was asleep on a chair by the elevator. We wanted to wait for our bus in the lobby, but a staff member (a heavyset British woman) sent us away — even though she herself was sleeping in the lobby. How can staff on a night shift simply sleep while on duty? This created an even greater sense of insecurity. We were told to sit on a chair by the elevator instead. The entire experience was a disaster, and we will never return. This place is completely unworthy of being called a hotel and is by far the worst one we have ever stayed in. The only redeeming factor was the friendliness of the daytime staff.

Our stay at Staycity London was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and at ease. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful — always ready with a smile and great local tips. The apartment was clean, modern, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was cozy, the shower had great pressure, and the kitchenette made it easy to prepare simple meals when we wanted a break from eating out. We especially appreciated the little touches — quality toiletries, fluffy towels, and strong Wi-Fi. The location was ideal — close to public transport, shops, and cafes, yet quiet enough to relax after a busy day exploring the city. Whether we were heading to a museum, a market, or just out for a walk, everything felt easily accessible. Overall, Staycity made our London trip feel like a home away from home. We’ll definitely be returning, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and a touch of warmth in the heart of the city.

Terrible stay and I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Especially avoid staying on the lower ground floor, these shouldn't even be advertised as rooms as you're essentially on a service corridor where there is constant noise from the hotel workers wheeling things back and forth so it was impossible to sleep when there was so much activity in the hallway from 5am onwards. To make matters worse I came back on a Friday evening at 10.30pm to find a private event happening right next to my room, the reception said the event would end at 12am. The way the room is laid out is that there's a 2nd glass door that leads to a Brewery and event space. There was a private party happening which was blasting loud music and was full of drunk people singing along loudly, I felt like I was in a club. Of course we're all fine with people having a good time but whoever thought to put an event space right next to the guest rooms with a glass door and zero sound-proofing?! Honestly I thought this can't be real!! A hotel's basic purpose is a place for guests to rest and sleep and this hotel does everything in its ability to prevent you from sleeping. So only book here if you can sleep through excessive noise or are nocturnal. I'm very disappointed especially considering the price you have to pay for the room. And don't expect the staff at the front desk to greet you when you come back either, they couldn't care less. I won't be returning.

[Updated: 13/07/24] I still did have a bad experience staying at Kingsland Locke and was disappointed as I've stayed at other Locke hotels and have had a good experience. I do still hold the opinion that the lower ground floors should not be offered as hotel rooms due to the excessive noise from the hotel staff using the hallway as a service corridor. When I left in the morning I was met with a large metal storage cage outside more door so can imagine this is what was being pushed through the corridor throughout the night. I do appreciate that due to this review, when I checked out the reception staff was sympathetic and apologised for the noise from the event which they confirmed is managed separately by the cafe. They said I could have been moved to another room if I asked. I want to clarify that the day staff seem more responsive and take more care whereas I felt the night staff showed little interest in providing customer service by not even looking up from their laptops when guests walk past and when I messaged the front desk to ask when the event would end and that I was surprised by the excessive noise they confirmed it would end at midnight but did not apologies for the inconvenience or offer to move me to another room. I appreciate that the reception staff offered a partial refund for the last night's stay and that the manager did...

I recently stayed at Kingsland Locke in Dalston, and overall, my experience was positive with a few noteworthy points. Here's my review:

Pros: Good Cancellation Policy: Kingsland Locke offers a flexible cancellation policy, which is a huge plus for travelers who might need to make last-minute changes to their plans.

Cute Gym: The gym, while small, has a charming setup. It's worth noting that you'll need to book your gym time in advance, as it can accommodate only two people at a time.

Room Size: The rooms are on the smaller side, but this is pretty standard for accommodations in London. They are comfortable and well-designed.

Kitchenette: Having a kitchenette in the room allows for light cooking, making it convenient for guests who prefer to prepare their meals.

Public Transport Accessibility: The hotel is within walking distance of both bus and train stations, with the 149 and 188 buses offering direct routes to the city. This accessibility to public transportation is a significant advantage.

Location: While the hotel is a bit far from the main tourist areas, it's close to the vibrant Shoreditch neighborhood, known for its hip and trendy atmosphere.

Friendly and Helpful Staff: The staff at Kingsland Locke were consistently friendly and willing to assist with any inquiries or concerns.

Cons: Limited Housekeeping: One drawback is that room cleaning is only provided once a week, which may not meet the expectations of some guests. This limitation is a departure from what many hotels typically offer and might be an area where the hotel could differentiate itself from Airbnb listings.

In summary, Kingsland Locke in Dalston offers a comfortable stay with good amenities, friendly staff, and a convenient location for those interested in exploring the Shoreditch area. However, the smaller rooms and limited housekeeping may not be suitable for all travelers. Taking everything into account, I would rate this hotel 4...
