The space is lovely, a beautiful building conversion from what it used to be. A lovely terrace specially for bright and sunny days. Staff is friendly but a bit slow, I guess they're trying their best to provide a good customer service and some attention to detail but they could do it faster specially if it's out of peak times and they're 3 staff members.
Coffee is high quality, very tasty but a bit over priced considering the size of the mugs. The menu is very small doesn't give much option. There's no fries available. On the other hand they have soup of the day which isn't common around the area but the menu is overpriced, i.e. soup is £5.50! Paid £8.60 for a kids sandwich + 1 glass of juice = kids menu, 1 chocolate brownie (very tasty, fresh and soft) and 1 cappuccino.
If you don't drink hot drinks there's not much more options. A very small selection of pastries. Was thinking to go on the weekend for breakfast but there's not enough breakfast selection (no sausages or fries) and it's overpriced. If you want to go with kids and considering the playground is just opposite kids menu is very limited: cheese sandwiche, toast with jam and some dips, certainly not my son's choice.
If you're an adult looking for some quiet spot to have a grown up conversation or work on your laptop with a good hot drink this can be a good place to go plus there's not much more to go around so they're lucky not enough competition.
Overall won't be going as often as I thought I could go for the reasons...
Read moreIf I'm wrong, what I did here will send me to hell. My first taste of a fine bacon sandwich, marking the complete rejection of the religion I was born in to. But I had a happy full tummy - although I might regret missing out on the free-flowing freebie wine available in heaven (and it doesn't intoxicate you), Koran Ch 37 Verses 45-47. I had to pay £11 for a small Malbec in town and it made me almost anyone's. Anyway, do you remember the theme tune to Cheers (1982-93)? Google it if you don't. OK, I'll sing it for you: "Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came...la, la, la, dum, dee, da...". Apply it to this place. That's all you need to know. Top coffee, unpretentious yet adventurous food, and staff who don't make out they are practising the mystical ancient art of apothecary when they make you a flat white - you know, like those bearded, oversized-spectacles wearing, denim-apron toting, intentionally dishevelled-looking earnest artisans of the...

Can't deny it's pricey although you get what you pay for. If you want cheaper, there is a more trad' bakery/cafe a few meters away although you won't get all the good stuff I listed below:
selection of breads is top class they make the best cappuccino in London. I tasted in many other places and base my comment on taste and consistency, The Slade is unbeaten on the latter, despite a change of barista recently. food is prepared and cooked on site. Chefs get the right balance between creativity and respect of traditional café food. service is prompt and polite as one would expect.
Something I wish they could do better: wine. They have a licence and sell some although they're quite pricey and choice is limited. There is nothing of quality for wine in the area and I trust local folks would appreciate if The Slade developped their offering - I...
