Pros & cons to be sure! Bright, cheerful lemon decor and service was friendly enough. Illy coffee was a definite plus and the cappuccino was quite good. Decided to have a Nutella & Creme crepe with a 'scoop' of gelato and this is where it goes pear shaped. The crepes were done well and presented nicely but the filling was too much and overpowered the crepe. The 'choco-synth sauce' was brown and that's about as close to chocolate as it got. Had a horrible artificial sweetener taste and made the crepe almost inedible. Moving on to the 'creme' & 'gelato', I was again assaulted by a plastic version of creme. After sitting on the plate for 90 minutes not one drop melted! Not a trace of dairy to be found. Il Gelato di Ariela is the brand they proudly display for their gelato vendor. It may as well have been McDonalds. Ordered the tiramisu flavour and it was laced with a chocolate swirl filling that had the consistency of chewing gum. The rest of it had that sandy, gritty texture that is the bane of a good gelato. To add insult to injury, they give you about a tablespoon amount for an extra £1.20. Awful!
Best part was I went to take a photo of the shop to show it was at least a nice looking place, the server behind the counter told me 'No photos!' When I asked why, he said the owner doesn't want anyone taking them. No further explanation. I complied and wrote this instead minus the few positive pics they might have had to accompany a rather...
Read moreThis place was our favourite since we moved in Leytonstone 10 yrs ago and always recommend to everyone but not until today! Today we went there with our 1 yr old and she was playing happily and screams from time to time. The one staff,an old man behind the bar was so rude and shush us in front of everyone bec of our little one. He told us everyone doesnt like a noise in the cafe when he served the waffles to us. I sarcasticly said sorry to him saying we couldnt stop a happy baby to scream but of course he didnt get the message. The other family sitting next to us was lovely and even spoke to us abt it. If u have happy babies dont come to this place because the old miserable man behind the bar will just ruin ur day! It's such a shame we loved coming to this place, management should choose their staff! This old man should be in the library not in...
Read moreWe visited on a Sunday around 12pm, it was a little busy but still had plenty of seating. The tables were clean. We entered and were not greeted, we had to ask if we can sit anywhere etc. We ordered a few dishes, and some items were missing which we had to follow up with, all the food came promptly so time was not an issue. The mocha’s were a bit of a let down. The service was very blunt and not very attentive or nice, they could say hello when we walk in, or thank you when we leave or even a smile… everyone had very serious faces. A little how was your meal would have been nice as well, just nice to be acknowledged. We are local but I don’t think we will visit again...
