The place looks absolutely stunning. We were very much looking forward having our roast dinner here. We were blowned away by the decor and been seated quickly. Our first impression was superb. Then it all went downhill. We ordered the 'rump of beef, slow braised ox cheek' roast for £23. It's a higher price than I would normally pay for a roast but didn't mind too much. The food was served with gorgeous amount of gravy and a nicely full plate. Unfortunately the excitement didn't last too long. The plate was only warm if I want to put it nicely. I could not find the ox cheek on the dish which was actually what made me go for it. The trimming was lacking of seasoning and the gravy was thin and blant. Working in the industry I didn't want to cause any problem so I ate the food and carried on with the conversation with my friend. Then ordered the second glass of wine however it tasted off and musty so I explained it to the waiter and asked for another glass of the same wine. What came next suprised me the most. The supervisor/manager (I can only assume as he was not wearing an apron) came along with the menu and said that he heard that I don't like the wine, would I like to choose another one? So feeling a bit confused and surprised I said that I actually did like the first glass but the second one was simply off. His tone was not overall rude but I found it arrogant. His response was simply that it came from the same bottle and it can not be corked since it's a screwtop. Well... again, I'm not a kind of person who is looking for an argument so I simply stated that I'm shocked to hear it and chose another wine. This however did actually spoilt my evening out with friends and could not stop discussing how wrong this answer was in so many levels. First of alI, I don't feel the need to be lectured on wine. Second of all anyone who knows the basics about wine knows that any wine can either be corked or oxidized. You don't need a cork for a wine to be off. Also find it personally hard to imagine that I could get a 3rd pour from the same bottle since we already took 2 glasses. Even if it was all true the whole situation and conversation was so awkard and left me uneasy. If anyone from my team dealt with the same situation this way, I would have been very disappointed in them. This place truly have so much potential based on the design, offering, location etc. I can only hope that the level of the service will match up / improve. We experience every day how hard and tyring it is to be in this industry so I don't say it lightly but I don't think that me or neither of my friends will return again...
Read moreI don’t normally make reviews like this in fact i didn’t initially want to however i feel like i must be honest and sincere My mate and i came to this pub last night on the 15th of April 2025 initially to watch the champions league football match we ordered pints and watched the game when suddenly from behind one of staff members who was holding at least 4 beers on a tray dropped it right on me and my mate making the glass explode all other the floor and me and my mate soaked i understand that these frustrating incidents happen but what shocked me and my friend the most was that the lady did not even apologise to us instead it had to be another member of staff who was a witness apologised on behalf of the other girl this was not it as later that night a very small bottle that i had purchased in a corner shop earlier that night that i did not consume at the pub because i am aware it is disrespectful and not permitted so we had consumed a quarter of it beforehand and outside the pub i did not have a bag to put it in so instead i left it on the floor below the table bare in mind that i had not consumed alcohol at the pub which did not come from the pub as i went to the toilet they took it away from me they refused to give it back to me and they proceeded to put it in the bin in front of me i know i should not have resisted even though i tried to stay calm and composed the staff rudely kicked me out and the lady even got 2 male staff members to chase me out all i wanted was my bottle back i had spent 18.99 at the shop for it i was not going to put it in the bin so i took the risk i understand it’s youre policy but the staff didn’t have to react in that manner i wouldn’t say that i would not recommend this place because the location is nice and so is the decoration. Additionally it has got good football tv quality but it’s a shame that the staff were acting so rudely in fact i’m pretty sure that because me and my mate are young 18 year olds the staff treated us with less respect as they would normally do to other customers and made us feel less welcome in some way i talked about it with my mate and he agreed about the feeling of discrimination as they were giving a “ go home little boys " type of vibe in conclusion not satisfied at all 70 pounds worth of clothes ruined for both me and my friend not an apology a 20 quid bottle gone and being chased out in a aggressive way after we bought 2 pints each from the pub not good enough we tried to remain tranquil and...
Read moreI stayed here on 2 occasions bookending a trip to England. I stayed in 2 different rooms.
First the good. The Location is excellent. It's a bit outside the hustle and bustle of downtown London but within a 5 minute walk from the hotel, your at the Clapham Commons tube station on the northern line. It'll pretty much connect you to whereever you want to go on London within a transfer. Also the area around the station is filled with little bars, coffee shops, restaurants and stores. It gives you access to early morning and late night food options. The food at the hotel restaurant is fantastic. I didn't take pictures of the included breakfast because I was too busy eating it on the morning. Breakfast was always a pleasure. You have the option of a continental breakfast and get to select a item from the "to order" menu. Everything was fresh and cooked well. Eggs were always cooked perfectly. The bar at the Windmill was also a fantastic space with a huge patio that has a smashburger restaurant on the weekends that was fantastic. The bar itself has a ton of seating with loads of options to drink, including a couple beers on hand pulls, if you like real ale. The rooms themselves were large with a comfortable bed and a large bathroom. Water pressure is fantastic. I enjoyed both rooms we stayed in.
Now the things that could have been a little better. The first room we had weird stains on the carpet right in front of the desk. It took me all of 5 minutes to figure out why. The coffee cups provided in the room vibrate off the Nespresso machine, spilling down the desk and all over the floor. It was obvious that they stopped trying to clean the carpet. A note stating the issue would have helped. The overall cleanliness could have been improved. It really needed a good deep clean. The second thing is a positive and a negative. The bar. It's a local hangout and it can get packed on the weekend and loud. Luckily our rooms were on the opposite side of the hotel and we couldn't hear it but we had others in alour group who were closer and could. Neither of these things would stop me from recommending The Windmill looking for places to...
