Tootoomoo is an Pan Asian restaurant in London with locations in Islington, Crouch End and Whetstone. We visited the Islington branch to try out their new bottomless brunch. The deal is three courses and unlimited beer or prosecco for an hour and a half (£29.95pp) or two hours (£34.95pp) available at weekends from 12-5pm.
You can select one starter, one type of dumpling and a main of noodles or rice and can add dessert for £5pp. We opted for the Veggie spring rolls (vegan), Edamame (vegan), Crispy duck rolls and Chicken gyoza to start. The Edamame was a great big portion of lovely fresh beans and covered in salt - perfection! Both the spring rolls were crispy and delicious with sauces of sweet chilli and hoisin. The gyoza were delicious and cooked perfectly with a good amount of crispiness.
For our mains we had the Bún Ga: vermicelli, grilled chicken satay, beansprout salad & sweet chilli. We also opted for the Pad Thai Veggie: egg, chilli, assorted vegetables, tofu, lime & peanut. You can make this dish vegan by removing the eff. The Bún Ga was a bed of rice noodles topped with a chicken satay sauce with chunks of grilled chicken. It was flavoursome whilst not being too spicy sauce and rather moreish! The salad had mint running through it which was a tasty addition to the noodles. The Pad Thai was equally good - full of veggies with big chunks of flavour filled fried tofu…delicious!
The food was consistently good and not too heavy which is always the risk with a three course brunch. We did not have to ask the staff to fill up our glasses (yey!) and they were very helpful and friendly throughout the meal.
The restaurant itself is small but pretty with big wide windows with the sun streaming through. For a bottomless brunch, particularly for vegans, it is a great shout. Tootoomoo is also open for dinner and is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a Pan Asian...
Read moreI went here for dinner on a Tuesday night with two friends, reserving through the Fork. The restaurant is small and cosy, on a main street close to Highbury and Islington Station. The staff and ambiance was welcoming, although the tables are a bit close together - it might make it difficult for people who need a bit more space or with mobility issues.
The menu is varied, with a balanced selection of veggie, meat and seafood dishes, rice and noodles, and plenty of sides. The portions are quite generous and come quickly. The staff was really nice, although as ordering is all through contactless, the communication was limited. This doesn't seem as cold as it sounds, as it just meant we could order as we liked and food / drinks arrived really quickly. Setting it up did take a few minutes though.
It does close right at 10pm, so if you're coming with friends make sure to get an early booking as they do close right at 10.
Overall a lovely experience, which I'll likely repeat. Bill came to around £125 for 3 people, including food and drinks (2 bottles of wine, 4-5 appetizers, 2 mains,...
Read moreWon’t be going back… I’ve been to the Islington branch several years ago and had a great time but clearly the standards had dropped.
Firstly noticed a selective enforcement of ordering food through the QR code. Midway through our meal we were asked by the manager to move from our table of two so he can join it with another to accommodate a group of three, even though behind us there was a lady, who just received her starter, sitting on her own at a table for four. To make matters worse, when we declined to move the manager took offence. To top it off there was a couple who were clearly drunk and talking very loudly and being disruptive, at no point did staff ask them to be quiet.
As for the food…well, not worth the price for the portion or quality. The food was bland.
And, to add insult to injury this whole experience we had already pre-paid a 12.5% service charge through the QR code process at the beginning when the service...
