A compact Craft Beer bar located on the vibrant West Green Road in South Tottenham . A hive of activity on most of my visits, the pizzas have proven to be popular and whilst they're certainly not up there with the best they suffice if you're looking for a dough fix.
It's best to arrive early if you want to get a seat at a table.
There is a illuminated beer menu behind the bar that reminds me of the style that many Brewdog bars adopt, it's certainly clear to read albeit a little garish.
The bar has 10 draught lines which 9 are taken up by beer . The list is safe yet satisfactory. It's good to see these guys supporting a lot of local breweries as well.
It's just a shame that they don't at least have one cask beer line installed.
The pricing structure appears to be a little higher than many other craft beer bars and pubs which isn't an issue unless the service is poor and here lies their biggest caveat in my opinion , the service.
On multiple visits I've walked up the bar only to be greeted by a rather surly staff member, I don't expect much but a little goes a long way when it comes to hospitality.
As an example I ordered an New England Ipa that I immediately identified as being oxidised , nothing disastrous as it can be common with the style if oxygen ingress occurs.
My beer was replaced for another beer of lesser value and no offer of a partial refund or alternative solution was offered.
The beer also remained on the list.
There is lots of room for improvement, I'm glad it remains popular with the locals and I wish the best with...
Read moreWe've had good beer served up in Tottenham for a few years now, albeit rocking up to some out of the way trading estate to the likes of Beavertown and Redemption's own Taprooms on a Saturday afternoon. But a full sized tap room open 6 days a week serving up food was a well overdue addition to the area.
Conveniently located, yes, it did receive (and probably will continue to do so) some negative coverage saying this is regentrification in the area which we don't need. But change has to take place. This is one new outlet that is on the site of what was a very run down pub as I understand it before it closed a few years ago. Certainly what it was before was a pub I would have never set foot in, let alone seen an entry in any guide book/website noted for serving good beer.
True Craft serve up 10 beers on tap. Important to remember is many are from breweries in the area including, yes, Beavertown, Redemption plus Brewheadz, Seven Sisters and Pressure Drop. In addition a well stocked up fridge of cans and bottles. Wines and I'm sure other drinks on sake at the bar, but I've not checked these out.
A good range of freshly cooked sourdough pizzas are the other selling point of True Craft. On sale most of the time the bar is open, both ones I've sampled are exceptionally tasty and a good price.
No Stella, Fosters etc. here. If you want a pint of that stuff there are plenty of other outlets...
Read moreWhile sitting at the pizza bar we saw some very bad practices while your chefs make the vegan and vegetarian pizzas:
Most of the time they don’t clean their hands between handling meat, cheese and vegetables - meaning that if the next pizza is vegetarian or vegan the veg in it might have been touched with meaty or cheesy hands while preparing the previous pizza
Even if they do clean their hands, they re-use the same tea towel which means they hands aren’t actually clean, we haven’t seen any of the chefs using gloves or properly washing hands before the next pizza
One of the chefs doesn’t even bother to use the tea towel, they just wipe hands on the same apron
The person doing the garnish doesn’t wash their hands or even use the tea towel between handling herbs and meat - we have seen him tearing prosciutto and then handling parsley, some of which he put back in the main container, so this may end up on vegetarian and vegan pizzas as well
Generally pizza is amazing and so far I was very big fan of this place - but after seeing lack of robust practices I will reconsider going there again.
There should be a separate station for vegetarian and vegan pizzas, or separate person to handle dough, meat, cheese and veg. I understand this is a small place, but if you offer dietary options you should stick to making them real, not only on paper. Very disappointing to see...
