Unico28 — Restaurant in London

I’ve been yesterday evening at Unico 28 and it was an impeccable dinner. We booked a table which was very straightforward and easy over the phone. As we arrived we were greeted gracefully by almost every member of staff that we walked past. As we sat down our waitress Deimante was so incredibly friendly and very welcoming, talked us through the menu and through the specials give us some recommendations. She was the loveliest person throughout our dining experience with this restaurant. Such a friendly, smiling person, her service was prompt and efficient and I really can’t thanks enough for the amazing dinner we had. Food arrived quite quickly which was great. We ordered starters, mains, desserts, wines and cocktails. Everything was absolutely delicious and potentially the best Italian food I’ve ever tasted (hats off to the chefs). I make it a habit not to write negative reviews but our experience was so appalling, I feel compelled to warn others. 3 of the 4 mains that we ordered were inedible (one dish was so salty, it posed a health risk). It took over an hour between starter completion and mains being served. We sent the 3 dishes back uneaten and they still appeared on the bill without any acknowledgment of our dissatisfaction from the manager / owner. When we queried the bill we were met with antagonism and aggression. The manager made the point that no one else was complaining, however, everyone else seemed to have ordered pizza. My pork escalope dish with soggy, watery mash and cold, grease coated undercooked onion ring’s didn’t resemble anything one would expect from a qualified professional chef and it made KFC look...

Cozy place. Friendly service. Nice menu. Good wines. We were greeted well and seated at a nice table. A very nice young Italian lady waited on us. Wine was good, and the 500ml carafe is the best value. The goats cheese croquettes were delicious. My wife ordered the baked aubergine starter which came out cold with hot spots. Sent it back. They brought it back piping hot and a mush. But good flavour. That's what happens when you send things back due to temperature...they nuke it. We ordered pizzas for mains. Beautiful crust well baked. An abundance of toppings. But alas, no flavour. No salt, no oregano, no basil, no pepper, no sharp cheese...bland. Note to chefs in London: it's not about how it looks, it's about "sapore...il gusto!" Overall mediocre. Not bad, but not memorable enough...
