A friendly Highgate cafe run by owners, who love their craft and their customers. Reasons to visit: 1/ Homemade tasty, fresh, wheat, sourdough bread that will have you wondering why you bother with famous sourdough brands. If you're a local that likes sourdough, you'll be ordering your bread here. 2/ A heartfelt welcome, for locals, visitors, passing trade and neighburhood tradesmen without a shred of pretentiousness - and that's not guaranteed elsewhere in Highgate, even on the Archway Road. 3/ A varied menu with standard English breakfast, more refined dishes, vegan options and soup, all presented meticulously in generous portions - doggy bags provided. 4/ Very interesting delicious deserts - the bitter orange and almond sponge and Charlotte apple tart with vanilla creme are worth writing home about. 5/ A clean loo that you'd be happy asking your visitors to use and your toddler too.

Less than a year old, this cafe is one of many that opened during the covid lockdown but I think it might be one to stay and one that locals might embrace. The owners give the impression that they have more to invest to wow us more. The Vanilla Cafe is opposite Highgate Wood, which is especially handy for people visting the park in spring and summer, and it's on the stretch of the Archway Road where the traffic is moving. I had the pleasure to taste a piece of mango passion fruit cake last year. I loved it and it's been my 'go to' cake since then. I've ordered it 3 times for different family celebrations and I treated my friend on her 50th birthday with this delightful cake. After my recommendation, some of my friends also ordered this cake from #Vanilla Café. The cake is very light, with soft sponge and fruity layers. My daughter compared it to mango sorbet. The handmade chocolate decorations made each cake absolutely unique. Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to the next occasion to order it. It's worth mentioning that there are many more flavours of cakes to choose from, including vegan and gluten free options.
