I hate to leave a bad review so I'll be very honest about today's experience.
The Bull was me and my girlfriends favourite pub for Sunday roast - we'd always get excited before going here and its always a great treat because the menu isn't exactly budget friendly, but worth it because it was one of the best roast in London - we would brag about how great our local pub's roast is!
Usually the place is very busy and hard to get a table on a Sunday. Today, the pub was empty with only one table with customers when we arrived (5pm) and we noticed the menu had changed - my favourite roast pork was gone :(
Despite our doubts we went ahead and ordered the chicken roast, beef roast and cauliflower cheese. Immediately we could tell the quality had dropped. Beef was cold, chicken was small, cauliflower cheese was cold, there were less veggies, the stuffing was lukewarm, potatoes were soggy despite us being the only customers there ordering food at that time.
When a member of staff came to ask how our meal was, I asked if the chef had changed, mentioning the quality and taste had dropped. They answered very honestly and politely that the kitchen is currently going through staff changes and they have been heavily understaffed while waiting for a new head chef to start next week or so.
After sending back the cauliflower cheese, which literally tasted like boiled cauliflower with semi-melted cheese on top, the kitchen was quick to replace it.
I wish I had taken a picture of our meal to show you a before and after picture of comparison from the roast we used to get, but it looked so disappointing that I didn't even want to take a picture of it. Honestly I've had a better roast for £16 compared to these which cost £24 each! Really disappointing. Our total came to £70 for 2 roasts, 1 side and 1.5 drinks + service. A price I wouldn't mind paying before when the roast was phenomenal. I don't see us going back after this experience.
The staff were kind and friendly, good service. Poor quality, expensive and...
Read moreWent to the Bull for Christmas Day meal and was underwhelmed to say the least. The meal was brought out in parts rather than altogether. So myself and mum ordered turkey and we got 2 slices of turkey with a slice of stuffing and one pig in blanket each. My sister and her girlfriend ordered a vegetarian main which was celeriac and kale. But then our sides came a good 5 minutes later by which time we had eaten a good few bites of our main. There was only one plate of potatoes which is a joke for 4 people, one plate of carrots, one plate of brussels and the plates were not full. They forgot that we had ordered 3 extra portions of parsnips so again had to wait for them to come through. When it came to dessert, we ordered 2 panna cotta but for some reason the chef only had one left so my sister switched to the walnut whip dessert. The panna cotta that came looked more like a creme brulee but tasted awful and was very hard like it had been pulled from the freezer last minute. The starters were the only thing that were decent. I appreciate that the staff were working on Christmas Day and Joe and Shanks were very accommodating but in terms of taste and quantity, the Christmas Day meal was in no way worth the £95 we paid! And has actually put us off eating out for Xmas day dinner...
Read moreWaited 15 minutes for a table id already booked because people were slow. (in all fairness thats not the staffs fault that customers are slow) Paid 127 pounds for a pint, one coffee and a lemonade, small plate of chicken wings (they were delicious but expensive) some brocolli, chips, a starter and 2 35 pound steaks that were sooooooooo thin for the price. For the love of everything holy dont get the 35 pound steak. Service was very good until the end after id been served and paid and was collecting my crutches (i have a broken ankle) that a supervisor came up to confirm in a suspicious tone that id paid the bill. This was infront of my girlfriend on her birthday which left a very sour taste in my mouth and was made even more funny by the fact that I was on crutches so im hardly the fastest criminal master mind escaping the scene. Value for money is absolutely shocking steak wise but other than that it was pricey but well cooked food. I will not be returning to celebrate a loved ones day again but hey. Its a decent pub with pretty good food but extremely pricey.
Wouldn't recommend as anything but a last resort...
