The worst Afteroon tea I have ever been to. I have never in my life wanted to walk out of a place and leave the food or not pay but I was sorely tempted but in the end too polite to do so. We only ate it because we had paid some money in advance. We asked for no salmon sandwiches when booking and when we got there they had still provided salmon sandwiches. The waitress made alternative sandwiches herself - ham and mustard, with so much mustard it burnt all of our noses and made our eyes water. The scones were approx 2cm in height, so hard we nearly broke the place to cut them. After having to actually ask for the tea - baring in mind there was one other couple in the place. The tea tasted stale and had so much scale floating on the top. And finally after using the toilet a member of staff Lazarus? Asked me 'oh what were you doing up there' and then laughed? I was just a bit shocked- completely inappropriate and unprofessional what ever reason he asked the question for. It must have been the straw that broke the camels back because it really really upset me to the point i was visibly shaking. I informed the female member of staff of this when she brought the bill over and she could see how it had affected me and she apologised, the male member of staff did not. She said she would speak to the manager right now. When she returned she put the bill back on the table and started to walk away and I actually had to ask so have you spoken to the manager and she said oh no he's not in? And then said she tried to ring him but got no answer... right. She took the service charge off and said she had no authority to take anything else off. I wasn't going to pay the service charge anyway as a number of times they had left the building to just chill outside!

Anyway rant over. The interior was nice and the bread was soft...literally the only positives. I hope no one else has to experience such poor inappropriate service...

I have had a lot of afternoon teas and this was by far the worst I've ever had. On menu there were a selection of different afternoon teas but we weren't asked which one we'd like just told to let them know when we wanted our food and then it was just plonked in front of us. We had to request tea to be brought to the table even though it's supposedly afternoon tea (the clue is in the name). No idea if there were different kinds of tea to drink as we weren't given the option. The food was awful. The ham sandwiches had so much mustard on them, we choked, the scones were so flat and hard they were basically biscuits, and the cakes looked like a child could have made them. Service was awful despite there being only one other table to wait on. Our plates were cleared away, including the saucers and spoons for the tea cups, while were still drinking our tea. The staff clearly wanted us gone as quick as possible so they could get back to joking around and hanging out together outside in the sunshine. A male staff member asked one of our party what they'd been doing in the toilets when they returned from the bathroom and then laughed, which was really weird and inappropriate. I've never experienced that anywhere ever and I don't understand why they would ask anyone that. Definitely wouldn't recommend and won't ever...
