Husband and I dined here very late (9 pm) on a weekday. Food was delicious, and very fresh. Service was very friendly. They had several other customers who were eating in and ordering food for take away. A testament to the quality of their food.

We enjoyed all our food. Qabuli pilao was the best I'd had. Not dry like many places. First time trying the potato stuffed starter. It was very delicious.

Food to price ratio was reasonable.

Lovely place for a family too. Would highly recommend and we'd go back again.

Nearby paid street parking is available a few minutes walk away until 7:00 pm. It's free after that.

A side note; as the wife, when I took out my card to pay, the server said loud enough 'are you paying?'. Made us conscious and uncomfortable on a subject matter that is ordinarily deemed shameful to a man. And there were other diners around.

I feel compelled to have to state, I am very much a pampered wife, and love to treat my husband occasionally. Men deserve to be loved in ways that involve spending money on them, without being made to feel ashamed and conscious of this. Plus, we'd chosen to dine out in very difficult personal circumstances, to get a break from things. It was not nice.

To add, I can't imagine the conflict/pain such a comment would have instigated for a woman who is being mistreated and forced to 'be the man'. Please be mindful. You really don't know the people behind the card.

Won't mention who said it. Because service was...

If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Watandar Restaurant is a must-visit! As a foodie, I can confidently say that this family-run restaurant serves up some of the most delicious and authentic Afghan food you'll ever taste. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm hospitality and great vibes.

The service at Watandar is simply amazing. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They go above and beyond to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. The food is the real star of the show, though.

The authentic Afghan dishes are bursting with flavor, and you can taste the Central Asian influence in every bite. From the savory lamb kabobs to the fragrant rice dishes, each dish is carefully crafted with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry!

The ambiance of Watandar is cozy and welcoming, with traditional decor that adds to the authenticity of the experience. The restaurant has a great atmosphere for families, friends, and couples alike. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner, Watandar is the perfect spot.

Overall, I highly recommend Watandar restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The amazing service, delicious food, and authentic ambiance make it a standout restaurant in the Central Asian culinary scene. Five...

Without a doubt, Watandar Restaurant serves up the most exquisite Afghan cuisine that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing😍. The flavors are a harmonious blend of spices and herbs that tantalise your taste buds and leave you craving more.

The quality of the food is matched by the convenience of the location. Located in a prime area of Lewisham, it is easily accessible to everyone. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind and indulge in some delicious food, especially during Ramadan.

The presentation of the dishes is also noteworthy (I had the Kabuli Palow and Mantu). Each dish is beautifully arranged and plated, adding to the overall dining experience. From the succulent kebabs to the mouthwatering stews ( I recommend the lamb Karahi 100%), the attention to detail in the preparation and presentation is simply outstanding.

In summary, Watandar Restaurant Lewisham truly deserves a 5-star rating. The exceptional Afghan cuisine, convenient location, and inviting atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an extraordinary dining...

We went to Watandar last night for Mother’s Day to explore Afghan food. We are originally Iranian so I was very curious to try our neighbour’s cuisine. And it did not disappoint!!!! Every single dish was more extraordinary than the other! The food was seasoned to perfection and every bite was heavenly! The bread is made to order in a traditional oven which brought back smells from my childhood and transported me back to better times! My absolute favourite was Boranie Bademjan. I don’t know what magic they used to make this dish so delicious, I could have had 30 of it!! The koubideh was fantastic and my dish was Mantoo, traditional dumplings, and it was flavoured so beautifully with yogurt and spices, it melted in the mouth. The desserts were also another blast of nostalgia, especially the faloudeh! The saffron ice cream was divine. The texture was spot on and not overly sweet or over scented. It was just right! The staff were also very friendly and attentive and made us feel extremely welcomed. I absolutely recommend this place. Complements to the chef and to the staff. We’ll be going back

Not often I dish out 5 star food, service & atmosphere, but this is a bit of a south east London gem 💎 me & some family were chancing some lunch as we had to visit Lewisham hospital, and stumbled upon this place. We were greeted warmly, and proceeded to order stuffed flatbreads for starters (made fresh on the spot), then had the borani dumplings (revelation, generously packed & packing so much flavour), lamb shank with sultana rice, vegetarian kidney beans with saffron rice & a chicken dish, subtly spiced oily delectable bites with another fresh made flatbread. We had soft drinks & pot of black tea, and paid a very reasonable sum of money for generous portions of insanely delicious food. We’ll be back! Mohammed who was serving & cooking some of it was a real gentleman - go eat here & see for yourself! tashakkor-e ziyād 🙏 and finally, Tories out!
