The Cavendish Bearsted — Restaurant in Maidstone

This should be a 5 star review. The food, service and atmosphere was top notch. My gripe was the price. Not that it was expensive because the quality of the food more than matched the costs of the meal. MY reason for dropping a star was that for anyone going off-piste on the breakfast menu, it could work out expensive. For me, not a great fan of beans and mushrooms, to have them taken off my plate doesn't reduce the cost of the meal, which in all fairness, I wouldn't expect. However in 99% of the establishments I've ever eaten in, reasonable substitutions would be allowed. Instead, despite already being two items down, you then have to pay for any items you want to replace those two items with, which adds up to a rather expensive plate. This is disappointing. The menu does state that extra items have a price and that no substitutions are offered, but in my personal opinion, it's not really on. I'll say it again that the food was great, everything arrived hot and with a smile and the place is nice and clean with a good atmosphere. Just a bit of advice - stick...

Thought we’d get some breakfast here rather than Costa to support a smaller business, but ended up waiting at least 15 minutes for just a tea and coffee and then an hour for our breakfast.

The staff seemed friendly enough, but it would have been nice to know that there was a wait or some compensation rather than having to ask whether our meal was even coming. By the time it arrived, we had finished our drinks ages before plus I could barely eat any of the bacon as it was cooked to a complete hard crisp. They even served people who had ordered after us before us.

Hopefully it was just an off day, but they seemed to blame it on the fact that multiple people were getting fried eggs which I don’t feel warrants an...

A place of two halves. We visited for Saturday lunch, it's slightly set back from the parade of shops in Bearsted so from the main road it's not obvious it's there. The aesthetics of the place are nice and food and drink was good and reasonably priced. All staff but one seemed nice and helpful. This is where the positives end. The manager seems to not like people or understand the key principles of customer service. When serving my wife she was curt and impatient, food was brought out without cutlery, no offer of sauces etc. She insisted the door was left open- food went cold quickly, and we were left chilly and wanting to leave quickly. Rudeness and a scowl won't help this otherwise good...
