As keen photographers we took our cameras after a couple of hours we stoped at The Little Old Toll House after an hour of chat to each other and other customers we moved on to capture some exposures of the nearby lock and was give a wonderful insight to its job by the on duty lock master. My friend Bob got a little restless as was i after our lessons in lock education. Yes we both wanted another pot of tea each and a scone. Read moreAbsolute gem of a place. I visit The Little Old Toll House whenever I can as the lattes and chai lattes are amazing (all the drinks are yummy as my daughter loves the milkshakes too), the sausage rolls are my favourite and the pies are my partners favourite. The service is brilliant and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Come rain or shine this place is great to visit. It now has under cover seating so you can go whatever the weather. There is no parking down the lock but there is a car park further up along from Allington Castle where you can leave the car and take a nice stroll down. It’s an ideal place for cyclists, runners, walkers, boaters and canoeists! A little something for everyone. I can honestly say it is one of my favourite places in my local area. We are very lucky to have this in walking distance. Definitely...
Read moreFantastic place to stop for coffee and a snack if out walking or mountain bike riding like I was today. Had a flat white - was excellent as was the sausage roll. This will now be my preferred mid ride stop for this route. Blankets available with outside seating so you can enjoy a coffee even on those chillier days. Stopped by again a few days after this review mid ride. Coffee and steak pasty excellent. Really pleasant place to rest for a while by the river. PS be sure to look out for the bold as brass Robin who likes to snack on cake crumbs etc! June 2022 update - seats and chairs upgraded - this place...
