Bernies English Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Manchester

Ordered from here for the first time yesterday. I had small Fish, Chips, Peas with an extra side of Curry Sauce.

I rang up initially as I wanted to ensure no beef dripping was used in the batter and what kind of oil was used for frying. The lady that answered the phone (I think her name is Charlie) was absolutely fantastic. She reassured me everything was cooked in palm oil and that the gravy and curry sauce were vegetarian. I asked about the fish being lightly battered and she told me all the fish is.

I ordered via Uber but then rang back as it said the shop shuts at 6.30pm. Once again, Charlie was brilliant and asked me how late I wanted the food. Not only did she put a delay on my delivery on Uber, she rang me twice to apologise for the delay! One Uber driver got quite delayed so she sent out another one and kept monitoring their journey! Charlie was genuinely concerned on the phone that my food may be soggy or cold by the time it got to me. It was piping hot and absolutely spot on. The small portion was just right, fish cooked to perfection and chips were great. I could finish the meal quick enough!

This place has received many good reviews and deservedly so. I am pleased to say I have found my new, local chippy. Not only is the food brilliant, the customer service is genuine and second to none.

By the way, Charlie even advised me it would be cheaper to collect directly!! That is not an option for me though and I wouldn't hesitate to use Uber again. Do note though, Uber allows you to order extra sides such as the Curry but Just Eat does not! It is worth...

We ordered from here tonight through just eat delivery was expected at 17:50, around 17:55 it stated on just eat it had been delivered yet I had no food. I rang the restaurant and spoke to the son they advised me the order had been collected. I then spoke with Dad of restaurant who apologised profusely for just eats mistake and advised me our order will be remade and delivered by them personally and they will be ceasing their contract with Just eat after tonights antics from them. They really didn't need to go out of their way to do this and it's a very fine example of what an amazing family run proper English fish and chip shop is all about. Amazing food when it arrived by son of owner who was again apologetic upon arrival. Absolutely amazing guys and this was actually the first time ordering from yourselves but we can tell you we definitely will be back but through uber eats next time or deliveroo! Bernie’s Chippy is, without a doubt, the best chippy I’ve been to in years. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with friendly service and the mouth-watering aroma of proper, freshly cooked food.
