I recently had a disappointing experience at this McDonald on October 25th at around 2:30pm. As a wheelchair user accompanied by my medical assistance dog, I was refused entry at first, despite presenting my dog’s Medical Assistant identification card which was on its neck and my chest. The staff member at the door stated that only guide dogs for the blind were allowed inside. It was disheartening, as I don’t understand how one could judge my eyesight or the validity of my needs. After requesting to speak with a manager, I was met with two understanding and professional managers who welcomed me in, with the condition that I keep my dog on my lap. Luckily, I was prepared to do that since I was in my wheelchair. However, it raised concerns for me about how medical assistance dogs whose jobs require them to alert and move freely.
This incident has bothered me for days. Navigating daily life can already be challenging for people like me who are living with pain and illness. Instances like this don't just add unnecessary difficulty.
While I appreciate that the managers prompt and positive response, the staff who refused my entry rolled her eyes, which was hurtful as if I shouldn't be there / be sick.
I believe that compassion, common sense, and proper staff training are crucial in these environments. This community McDonald's generally has a friendly atmosphere, and the staff usually greet customers with smiles, which is why I have to stress that I hope better training is implemented to avoid situations like the one I experienced. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I did, especially those who are struggling with their own challenges.
Thank you for listening to my concerns. If it helps, below is a summary of the relevant laws in UK for reference: In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Northern Ireland) protect the rights of people with disabilities and their assistance dogs. This law states that it is illegal to discriminate against disabled people or refuse them access to services because they have an assistance dog. This includes: Refusing access It is illegal to refuse access to a disabled person with an assistance dog, except in exceptional circumstances. Making reasonable adjustments Service providers must make reasonable adjustments to allow access for assistance dogs. This includes amending "no dogs" or "no pets" policies. Treating people equally It is illegal to treat disabled people less favorably than others because they have an assistance dog.
Not every person with an assistance dog has a...

Read moreAs requested that I message you, we visited a McDonalds 21 Wall Way, Gorton, Manchester. M18 7WY on Monday.
My mum went to complain about the toilet to the manager and as previously someone else complained already he took the anger out on my mother in front of the entire shop, started shouting at their and told her that If she didn’t want to stay inside then we should get out.
This did not go down well with myself and so I confronted him and he wouldn’t be quiet and asked us to leave without getting our food, baring in mind that the restaurant was full, there were so much people there, no tables to sit as the entire place was filthy. This caused a right argument and the manager ( he was male tall with dark brown hair and wears glasses) walked away when my mum requested for his name which he told her that “ you don’t need to know my name “and proceeded to remove his name badge. He then went out outside to smoke with a fellow female manager, which was done quite openly in front of the restaurant. We decided to go and sit down once our order was done ( baring in mind we had ordered from the app and this took forever to come to us ) the order was incomplete as my mum had to go back on two separate occasions to ask for items that were missing! The most terrible service I have ever encountered in my entire life! The place was a disgrace including outside. I will email this to head office too and will take the videos further. I am not the type to report, but the standard of this Mac Donald’s and how we were treated really irked me considering the fact that it was a really heavy day and just tried to relax after loosing my father a month ago. This is not...
