We went to this amazing little Asian takeaway shop for a birthday dinner, and it was such a special experience! The place only has one table for dine-in, so booking in advance is a must — but it’s absolutely worth it.
I don’t usually like duck, but their red wine duck completely changed my mind — it was incredible! The dish I looked forward to the most, the pickled fish (酸菜魚), was simply stunning, and even the seemingly ordinary stir-fried vegetables were fresh, crisp, and full of flavour. Every dish was perfectly executed.
Chef Tony personally came out to introduce the ingredients and explain his cooking methods, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Since it was a birthday celebration, the lovely owner Michelle had prepared special birthday-themed napkins and cutlery, and even gave us a birthday card for everyone to sign — such a thoughtful touch!

Big Cat Takeaway has truly set the gold standard for Chinese cuisine in Manchester. It was hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in the city – perfect for celebrating my birthday!
The Chu Hou Duck was incredibly tender and juicy, with the sauce perfectly complementing the rich flavor of the duck. It was a dish that showcased the kitchen’s mastery of flavor and texture. The Pine Nut Fish was another standout – impeccably crispy, entirely boneless, and a testament to the chef’s extraordinary knife skills. Every bite was an absolute delight.
On top of the amazing food, Michelle provided top-notch service. She was attentive, professional, and made sure every aspect of the meal was perfect. Her warmth and care added to the overall experience.

Read moreYou wouldn’t expect this little takeaway restaurant to have a private table and serve Michelin-level Chinese cuisine, but it absolutely does! The attention to detail in every dish surprised all of us. The flavours were among the best we’ve ever had. Our favourite was the duck, a beautiful fusion of French and Chinese flavours. I also loved the fish soup - you’d never expect fish to be this smooth and silky, almost like tofu.
We had a truly lovely dinner here and will definitely be back whenever the new seasonal menu is ready. With Chef Tony at the helm, I’m sure this small restaurant will thrive and soon have a waiting list.
