Went here for a meal after work on Friday to meet some friends, one of which is coeliac. We arrived at 6, and were seated. We decided what we wanted to order and at around 6.45 (we didn't mind so much since we were talking) we were asked for our order, during which time there was no mention of waiting times for food nor were we told anything about the gluten free order. Our food eventually arrived around an hour later and the bacon and brie burger from the gluten free menu came on bread instead of a bun (no mention when we ordered), the jacket potato was hard half way in and had black bits in it, and the burger was supposed to come with a chutney and coleslaw. When we asked about the meal, my friend was given a salad and some coleslaw. We were then never asked how are meals were, when the waitress took our plates she never asked how it was, just if we were finished, and she continued to avoid us, we we were left over half an hour waiting for our bill before we had to just go to the bar and pay While the lady at the bar did give us a discount, I must say I'm astounded by the terrible service we received, the lack of care of what state of food went out, and the amount of time we were constantly waiting. Unfortunately my other friend had a burnt combo side, and my lasagne was watery and part cold, do none of us had a good meal, but the gluten free bacon and brie burger was just shameful. Would not recommend and would not return

Tried here for the first time recently due to a local leaflet promotion. We will be visiting again. The food was well cooked and very tasty. The service was fast and friendly. The venue clean and welcoming. My only criticism of the food would be the micro portion of garden peas with my steak and chips. There were just 24 peas and the portion looked rather silly on the plate. Also the menu showed the soup as coming with bread and *butter* but was actually served with Flora margarine. My wife had the sausage and mash which she thoroughly enjoyed but was slightly disappointed not to get the crispy onion topping. One other criticism was that the leaflet voucher for two drinks for ÂŁ5 was apparently not accepted for non alcoholic drinks. This was unexpected as it did not mention this in the small print or the Ts&Cs, and makes it seem like Marston's are encouraging drinking and driving, which I'm sure they are not. I would suggest they rethink their drinks promotions in the future.

Pizza Oven out of order, which was disappointing for my little girl but otherwise a great evening out. Most of our service was carried out by Sam, it's the second time we have been served by her and she has provided a lovely homely experience both times. She clearly enjoys her job. The pub has recently updated their menu and there is now a term on the back of the kids menu detailing that kids meals are for under 16s only. I didn't see this before ordering (from a manager on the one interaction that wasn't Sam) and was actually allowed to order a kids meal for myself. At 658 calories for a meal advertised for an under-5 I found it to be plenty of food for myself as an adult on a calorie-restricted diet. Such terms and conditions are not needed as it is a portion size not a concession, and this is why I removed a point on my rating.

Over the last 8 years I've used the golden Eagle as it has been a place with a lovely atmosphere a large menu along with specials that's well priced and caters for everyone and an area for children to play and burn off energy. Today I took my wife and 3 children again and was quite excited to get there but it didn't take long for this excitement to diminish. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who said she could squeeze us in for a table as they'd had a cancellation ( half the tables were empty so this baffled me). When we sat down again we were greeted by another lovely member of staff who gave us a menu and a child's menu. Now I'm not sure whether my standards were set way too high but I'm sure a menu with 7 meals 4 Sunday dinners 2 burgers (1 meat and 1 plant based) on a 2 for 1 basis with most meals being ÂŁ15 plus being anything bar poor, they normally do pizza but they informed us the 6 styles of pizza they did weren't available so thats nearly half the menu not able to be ordered. Now they used to have an amazing specials board which was empty so I asked we're they still doing specials to which the young waiter said they weren't. When the meals came they were cooked well and tasted lovely but they were no different to a spoons ÂŁ8 meal I've had in the past so I was struggling to understand why such a limited menu on a 2for1 basis as if you were in a group of 3 people would be extremely expensive to say the least, and I wasn't alone majority of people sat down eating we're saying the same "too over priced, no variety, staff looking like they were there as part of some Community service and looking like they would rather be anywhere else. At this point I just felt sad that such a lovely place is now a shadow of its former self. Now I don't know why this is but the atmosphere and whole experience is set by the management team and they looked just as sad and depressed to be there. I hope the following can be changed and it does get a more energetic leadership team, a better menu with more variety and scrap the pathetic attempt at trying to wow folk with a 2for1 deal that is nothing more than masking the fact that the menu plainly was just poor, it would be lovely to see a better atmosphere in there of I ever decide to go...

We came to your pub around 8:30pm with my grandchildren for a late dinner due to a short notice change of plan. I checked the website and food was planned to be served until 9pm and the pub open till 11pm, I thought that’s great! On arrival we were met by a manager who never said hello, just “are you wanting a table?” I replied with yes please she replied with “well we don’t have any pizzas and all that side is closed now” as she gestured over to the side of the pub where the toilets are located, I said that’s fine, we’ll eat whatever you have and sit anywhere. We had 3 young hungry children with us and happy to go with the flow. We sat down, at a table right next to another couple who were having a very loud conversation, which seemed an odd place to put us as there were more than 10 other tables free but we sat there as we were told. We ordered for and spent almost £80, the food arrived and was absolutely delicious! Which is the reason for the 2 stars instead of the one. After finishing food, the two boys were keen to play pool with us, so we moved over to the pool table. At 9:35, the same lady who met us at the door, came over and quite abruptly said “you do realise we close very soon”, I was surprised as it wasn’t 11pm, so I asked what time, she replied with 10pm and I asked what time was it now, where she replied 9:35 and gave a smug look. I said ok no problem but the website did say it closed at 11pm, she replied with “the website?? Well that’s not the case we only stay open until 11 on Friday & Saturdays, as you might notice it’s very dead in here now!” I said , ok and planned to leave before 10pm. All of the staff then waited coats and bags on near the bar, waiting for us to leave, you can imagine how uncomfortable this made us, we left, not finishing our game of pool and we won’t be returning anytime soon. I would suggest if that’s how customers are treated in the evenings, it is no wonder there is no trade after 8/9pm. It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely building with great parking and the food was brilliant! The service let the brand down...

Booked a table to eat on Sunday with my partner as we had heard good things. Arrived 5 minutes early to check in only to be greated by a lady who we assume was the manager at the time. We gave our names for the reservation to which we were met with no response, we then proceeded to repeat our names and offered to show the confirmation to the booking where we were then met with a stern response of "Yeah I've found you" which was very abrupt. We were then shown to our table whilst being told we could only have bar service which we had no issue with but there was no option to change this when booking online and the way it had been said to us felt like we were supposed to have selected a different option online (the way in which this was said was not in a friendly manner). As we got to the table we were only given 1 menu between us so we had to lean across the sticky table to share as we did not feel comfortable asking for another or for the table to be wiped. Throughout the reservation we had mutliple interactions with the lady we can only assume was the manager at the time. We tried smiling and speaking politly in which we were met with blank stares or averted eyes which only made us feel more unwelcome. As my partner suffers from anxiety very small interactions like the ones stated above are amplified. We would understand if it was a busy day but the bar was practically empty and we just had the constant feeling we were not welcome. It was our first time here and this was not an enjoyable experience for either of us to the point where we just wanted to finish our food and leave.

The rest of the front of house staff was lovely and gave us no cause for concern even when the till wasnt working properly they made us feel at ease. We dont usually leave reviews for places as we arent confrontational people and would rather just let things be but we felt it needed to be brought to your attention about the older lady who had greeted us that day and the effect it had on the entire experience. I dont think we will be coming back or...
