Arrived with partner to this cute looking cafe as i had been recommended by a family member. We walked in and it was an awkward atmosphere as we didn't know wether we seat ourselves or get seated so we're kind of lingering near the front. The staff member noticed us but didn't say anything until i asked do i seat myself or is there set seating. She then went to check for seating and then went to where we're told to go, this was quite cold, dark and empty feeling area. I went up and ordered and the woman was pleasant with the service. Our drinks arrived and they were good but i felt the cold drink i ordered was quite empty and could've had more for the price i paid, but then the food came and we were left disappointed. It looked nice but the whole food just tasted like it had been dunked in water and was soggy which also took away any taste, it was just about warm so became cold very quickly. I would also expect maybe a couple more bits on the plate like another sausage and definitely another slice of toast. Both me and my partner could only eat half our meal due to all this. Unfortunately i wouldn't go back or recommend this place. Maybe it was a one off or maybe i should've just ordered something else but i was left we're disappointed due to lack of flavour and the pure water taste. And my whole meal of two breakfasts and one hot and one cold drink came to £30! Also one thing i would have preferred is the choice between normal beans or smoky beans as i don't like smoky beans and imagine there's more people with the same opinion. It was a good place to try but again i wouldn't return...

Well the cooked breakfast looked lovely but having waited 35 minutes for anyone to take our order we left without one. We entered the Cafe and asked if they had a table. The girl looked a bit flustered but took us to a table and gave us a menu. 15 minutes later one of us went to the counter and asked "do we need to order here or do you take our order from our table". The lady told us "Ill come over and take your order form you in a moment". A further 5 minutes passes and still no sign of anyone. (The cafe was not busy at all). Then two elderly ladies arrive and sit down. Their table was swiftly cleared from the previous occupents and they were asked if they would like to order. They ordered two coffees. Still no interaction with our table (which is about 4m away). Another 10 minutes and the coffees arrive for our neighbouring table, but still no interaction with us. We waited another 5 minutes and then left. On the way out, we passed the counter and said "were leaving" to be told "I did tell you to let me know when you were ready ! (not the case im afraid). No apology, no "sorry, let me take your order, no anything". We wont be bothering again. Shame really, as the food looked nice, but you really need to sort your service. THE OWNERS RESPONSE TO THIS HONEST REVIEW IS APPALING. I WOULD NOT, AND NEVER HAVE USED SUCH VILE LANGUAGE. I WALKED OUT WITH MY COLLEAGUE WHO SAID "WE ARE LEAVING, WE HAVE BEEN HERE OVER 30 MINUTES". I THINK THIS RESPONSE SUMS UP AN UNDERLYING ISSUE HERE AND I WILL TAKE THIS UP...

Me and my partner popped in as we were enjoying a Friday off from work and wanted takeaway sandwich’s with drinks.

We were greeted by the owner (so we were told) who was not polite, and when we asked to use a local discount scheme for 10 percent off the food only that the cafe has signed up for (its free for them to be on the scheme) we were told it was only to be used for one person. The strange thing is the cafe accepted it three times previously .

When we asked why it was accepted previously the response was as a cafe we can’t afford it moving forward. So on our food the total discount would have been approximately £1.00 but instead we could only get 50p off! If you can’t afford that level of discount then I’m sorry but you should not be in business!

The manager was unprofessional, rude and aggressive from the start. Her response was “what’s your problem” So we left to go to a chain instead.

We have never been spoken to like that as customers before. Not sure if she was having a bad day but some how tried to turn the whole thing around on us. Very weird.

Will not be returning again because of the manner we were dealt with...

Sadly this was disappointing! (hopefully a one off - it was Tuesday they had no coffee from Sunday) I asked Google for a coffee shop near my route and u liked the idea of not visiting a Costa for a change, after I parked ( free fir two hours) I actually passed a Costa. On entering I waited and was ignored only after a loud cough was I spoken to saying she'd (waitress) would be back soon she appeared after a bit and I asked fir a coffee to be told curtly, "we don't have any coffee." So I asked about cold drinks, "in the fridge" came the reply. OK so maybe she was having a bad day I guess serving in a coffee shop with no coffee could be quite depressing!! I stuck it out when I found an Elderflower drink and sat at a bench table made of what look like scaffold planks and poles. The interior was a quaint combination of old timber frame, modern and "chabby chic" sawn wood cladding...it did not work for me. The loo was a bit shall I say Heath Robinson, Maybe it was an exceptionally "black" day but sorry I cannot recommend the place and I won't be going back.

Absolutely Brilliant! Love that it’s an independent business. Dog Friendly!! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts. The service staff were so friendly and helpful. Never felt rushed. I would definitely recommend booking in advance if you can. The food is very nice. I had the mushrooms brunch w/ side of bacon. Absolutely worth it. It had spinach and crispy kale or something because it was amazing!! It was topped with Parmesan. Let’s not glaze over the French toast. It might not look like much to the untrained eye but don’t let yourself be mistaken; cause oh my goodness me is it tasty. I’m sure it has a cinnamon sugar crunch that just makes it. My husband really enjoyed his Full Breakfast. Everything is made fresh to order even the delicious orange juice. I would 10/10 recommended coming here.

After a beautiful ride to the historic town of Knowle I was, as I always am, gasping for a coffee. I entered the period Elderberry Blacks Cafe, warmly welcomed by a lovely member of staff. The interior is well thought out, catering for the current COVID social distancing legislation. The detailing doesn't stop there. There are cool neon signs, retro adverts and cakes, many baked goods, strutting for your attention. I'm happy to give a few pointers on getting that flatwhite crafted to perfection;) They do cater for the ever increasing vegan population with a range of non-dairy milks. I'm sure the same thoughtfulness has been put into their food menu too. I shall return, probably with a big group of hungry cyclists.
