I’d rate this place a 3.5 out of 5 based on the following factors:
Price & Value for Money – 5/5
The pricing is absolutely superb—affordable yet offering good quality for what you pay. While it may not be the best meal you’ll ever have, it delivers excellent value. For example, £6 for fish and chips on a Friday, £6.19 for a jacket potato, £9 for a steak and ale pie, or two meals for around £12 is incredibly reasonable. The pricing is definitely on point.
Food Quality – 3/5
The food itself was decent—tasty but nothing exceptional. It didn’t seem particularly fresh, likely cooked from frozen and possibly reheated in a microwave. That said, it was no worse than similar budget-friendly pub chains like Wetherspoons.
Service – 4/5
The service was good, though not outstanding. The staff member who served me was polite, efficient, and attentive to my needs, making for a positive experience overall.
Atmosphere – 3/5
When I arrived around 3 PM, the pub initially felt a bit lifeless. As time went on, it got busier, improving the atmosphere slightly. However, even when more people arrived, the noise levels became overwhelming, making it difficult to have a conversation.
Facilities – 3/5
The gents’ toilets were clean, but the hot water tap didn’t work, which was disappointing.
Final Score: • Price & Value for Money: 5/5 • Food Quality: 3/5 • Service: 4/5 • Atmosphere: 3/5 • Facilities: 3/5
Total: 18/25 → 3.6/5 (rounded to 3.5/5)
Overall, this place offers excellent value for money with reasonable food and decent service. However, the atmosphere and facilities could use some...
Read moreThis place used to be my local years ago. I visited on Thurs 29th November with my two boys. Wow what a change and all for the e better. Spotlessly clean, warm welcome by big guy who I think was the landlord, greeted as if I was a regular. Order 3 meals on the Thurs deal £6 each, Big portions, well presented and on the table within 20min. Compliments to the chef who I now know is Pierre. The value for money on thus deal is hard to believe. Then there is Natalie I am not sure of her position but whatever it us she needs a payrise. Buzzing around like a duracell bunny with an infectious smile and personality she even managed to snap me out of my bad mood and I am a miserable bugger. Outstanding service, she didn't pass one table or one customer without some kind if acknowledgment to each and every customer. All while serving drinks or deli vering food to tables and then making sure the tables were all cleaned down after.
Well done clock tower proper first class attention to detail , good food and good customer service is still out there.

Read moreAfter the refurb, The Clocktower is brilliant - the work has really updated the place.
The same wonferfull staff are still serving cheaper drinks and delicious food with (mostly!) smiles on their faces.
It's my local and I love it. It's my second home / office, and I'm massively grateful for that.
I'm also particularly protective of The Clocktower from the small number of people who always seek out the "negative" aspects all the time.
That's their problem, and if all they can do is slag the place off then they should stay away. Go to the Nut & Squirrel or Burnt Oak instead. Both considerably WAY behind The Clocktower.
Yes I've had issues in the past with Greene King, reported them and moved on.
The Clocktower is a Local Pub, an Estate Pub...
If you expext the Dorchester or Hampton Court level of finishing and quality, then stay away.
Us "normal" people don't want you here.
Well done to Greene King, Jon and the whole staff for this makeover.
Keep up the good work!
