The Old School House — Restaurant in Milton Keynes

well let me start by saying we live in derby and have been having Christmas meals in stony Stratford since 2004 staying with our friends in beechampton. this year we looked at several venues for our xmas meal and came across the old school house festive menu this came out in favour of all the others hands down with choice of food options including a fantastic choice for vegan options, we booked early so a discount was added to our booking. menu choices were easy and confirmation was instant. on the day of our visit we called into the pub early to see where our table was we spoke with the manager and asked if we could be placed away from the resident DJ so we could enjoy our meal and also have a conversation catch up with our friends who we only see once a year. this was no problem came the reply from the manager we were placed in a great spot away from the DJ .when we arrived later that evening we were shown to our table shortly after the food arrived and wow lovely starters all hot and plentiful then came the mains and again presented wonderfully and full plates again good sized portions.. so onto the deserts all served excellently. the table service was excellent the ambience is excellent we loved the Christmas crackers being totally recyclable no plastic toys but instead lovely cardboard tree decorations. and i have to say you made our Christmas night out a brilliant experience thank you. happy Christmas from Steve And Kim Allison. and...

I went to the old school house for the afternoon before the light switch on down stony Stratford high street. The pub got busier and busier and the poor girl behind the bar was serving on her own and clearly stressed at the amount of people waiting for service as was the underage girl collecting glasses and having to tell people she couldn't serve them. This girl was later consoled as she was tearful by her parents who were sitting on the table next to us. Later, once more staff had started their shift, I went to the toilet and came back to the bar to get another drink. I was abruptly and rudely told that I needed to queue to get served and wouldn't be served if I didn't join the queue despite there being no signs saying queue here. If customers want to form a queue, they can wait in line, but there's no signs saying that's the policy of the business and...

This place has recently been done up and the general setting and aesthetics are fine. That's where the positives end. The 2 pints that I ordered the other night were of a terrible standard- absolutely flat as a pancake. There was a guy next to me who ordered 4 pints and they were exactly the same, no life in them whatsoever. In this day and age where consumers are paying a premium you have got to get it right first time and then subsequently every time- there is no excuse. Due to the terrible standard of lager that I was served I will not be returning to this establishment which is a shame.
